Northeastern University - Institutional Master Plan

Totally off topic but will the Hancock ever have an art installation again? I loved that mural from last winter!

Right. But I was wondering if anything was buried. Some utility/fascilities stuff.

Not sure what it contains, but there is a structure under that slope.

https://flic.kr/p/NFfgi8,

The master plan shows one or two more academic buildings at the buildout of the Columbus Lot site. So it is possible that concrete tunnel/passageway (if it isn't back-of house storage right now) may be a climate-controlled passageway from the ISEC to future building(s). It makes sense.

Word on the street is that Northeastern just bought Punters Pub for $5.3 Million. Would a certain deed-tracking member care to elaborate?

If true, this likely paves the way for NU to construct a new residence hall at corner of Huntington Ave & Parker Street across from West Village H. See item "J: Burstein - Rubenstein Redevelopment Plans" in "illustrative plans" post above.

That would allow for an interesting flatiron building!

RIP Punters.

Always fun the handful of times I've gone over the years.

r.i.p.

btw, anyone know what happened to that huge (not really) 230' dorm tower?

I assume you're referring to the Burke Street residence hall. It got approved. Should be going vertical in 2017.

It was a delightful bucket 'o' blood [generally minus the blood]. How could you pass up the slice 'o' pizza shot window? Just a dark dank cave of raucous intimacy... at least there's still Conor Larkins.

There goes one wonderful shit hole - RIP from my collegiate days. Three dollar pitchers + slices through the pizza window between classes was key, as was the no natural light to illuminate the grime that hadn't been cleaned in years. I guess I might have to go back and revisit it before its closing... then again, maybe it is better to just keep it a fond memory. Too bad future generations of WIT (and NEU) students won't get to cherish it.

All of that said - anyone know where the liquor license is going ?

Per The Globe, "A Northeastern spokesman said Punter’s Pub will continue to operate for at least two more years, and that the school is unsure of how the property will be used in the long run."

Forget UHOP's pizza, I always made sure to get those generic super greasy curly fries when I was drinking at Punters.

It also had the benefit of being the most reliable place to find any of my attractive acquaintances that happened to have less than legitimate forms of identification. You know, just like Daisy Buchanon's.

I always liked the passthrough window between UHOP and Punters.

I know NU would rather not be in the landlord business, but having a great ground floor of businesses and shops would be really nice.

Yes, Burke St is starting soon. Similar to East Village, it will be owned by others and leased by NU.

Crew putting up the site fence this morning at the Burke site.

That was quick, by Boston standards.

Reveleloping the Rubenstein etc. property without this pointed site would have been very awkward. Now they may be able to build a larger residence and that project may be put on the front burner. Without the Punter's site the project would only add a net 200 beds.

All that posturing by Tito and they still got approval for Burke.

The MFA shoulda bought Punter's to protect its views. There is/was that proposal several years back to build a tower down the street on the field owned by WIT at Huntington / Ruggles that would have cast shadows throughout the day on the MFA. (Which might not be so bad if you're in the galleries since most don't have windows, but bad if you like the view of the MFA in all its glory.)
