Might be the general Cambridge development thread. Edit: yeah, they were discussing how there wasn't a thread for it last year in the Cambridge thread.

Yah I remember seeing it before but I wasn't able to find a thread. Anyhow this is large enough to have its own thread. According to BLDUP these are new renders.

Big Central Square housing development to launch this summer

Construction will start this summer on a long-planned apartment development in Central Square, after it won final approval from the Cambridge Planning Board Tuesday.

Developer Twining Properties expects to launch work soon on Mass + Main, a two-building, 285-unit development at the corner of Massachusetts Ave. and Columbia Street that will replace a garage and former medical testing facility with one of the tallest buildings in that section of Cambridge. The builders have to set aside 20 percent of units at affordable rents, partly in exchange for being allow to build 195 feet high.

Twining expects the complex will be complete in late 2019.

How did developer Twining Properties, which has been trying to build Mass + Main for four years, get the Elks’ support? By promising to pay for improvements to their lodge, per Cambridge Day’s Marc Levy.

Twining now expects to open the project by the fall of 2019.

There we go. That's how that's supposed to work. Good idea too, since the Elks lodge isn't exactly a looker. Probably helps the developer wring more value out of the adjacent units.

It's legal extortion, yes. Some would also call it "negotiation".

Does this extend from the McDonalds to the Cafe Luna space?

The Bldup site stated that demolition had begun, so I did a swing by the other day. They don't seem very aggresive. No fences, site office, or real site prep. Just one big excavator. I wish they would get going on this project.

They had disconnected utilities in the building that had the fake stained glass backlit art in the windows.
