Kendall/MIT Infill and Small Developments

Per B&T, MIT's next (presumably hideous) dorm will be a developer partnership at 270(ish) Vassar.

Equilibria -- what various MIT sources are muttering about is not a "Dorm" so much as more Graduate Student Housing for families

Boston02 -- Agree wholeheartedly the pics are a great sample of what is going on in the neighborhood ✔ -- Absent of course Volpe [not much to see so far] and Google + the stuff off that beaten track such as Alexandria
 
Couldn’t find the extant thread for the Blue Garage project, but Eversource is now proposing that parcel as the new substation, instead of Fulkerson St. The entire Blue Garage would be demolished and replaced with underground parking, the substation, and the tower.

Eversource would sell the Fulkerson St to Alexandria Partners once the substation is approved.

Alexandria bought the Metropolitan Pipe property on Fulkerson; this new purchase would be for about one acre of land contiguous with the former Metropolitan Pipe property. Combined, I think it is about 4.5 acres.

Yes...there was a small B&A yard there originally from the days where Broad Canal barge traffic to the Kendall terminal interchanged with the RR. It remained until the 1980's for Conrail setoffs for the last remaining on-line customers in Kendall so they didn't have to runaround onto the northside to serve those sidings. Bent St. had some street-running track on it as well serving some eons-gone warehouse loading docks on that block...though that's probably been paved over close to 50 years now.

The ex-yard space along Fulkerson stayed RR owned until Conrail was prepping itself for merger/dismemberment by CSX. Sold same very late-90's era where they cut the rent deal with MIT for Main St. air rights and dumped the NECCO spur from Ft. Washington Park via Purrington St. Sell, sell, sell...everything must go.
