Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

JetBlue to reattempt Boston-Vancouver seasonally this summer. Air Canada recently trimmed the length of their seasonal service on the route.
American Airlines adding another frequency to Boston-Louisville.

Would have been interesting for American to try Boston-Greenville SC.

Not clear from press release when these changes come into play.

Didn't they also plan a longer run of 3 weeks for 2023? While they're adding seats with the 738 MAX, it's going to run for a shorter duration than they did in 2022. Comments in airliners.net indicated the route ran with high load factors, but that also doesn't provide a solid financial baseline for the route.

AC Boston-Vancouver starts in mid June instead of Mid May and ends in September.

Porter to launch a once daily Boston-Ottawa flight on the Dash-8. Start date 3/27/23.

Glad to see another carrier jump on this after Air Canada dropped it. Porter seems to have a nice slice of the Toronto market.
Interestingly it's loaded as flying into E at a fairly busy time despite being precleared.

16:15 YOW - 17:25 BOS
18:00 BOS - 19:34 YOW

I believe Porter has always used the low-E gates at Logan as a successor to Southwest, AirTran, Northwest and TWA in that space.

I go to Toronto a few times a year and I always fly Porter, even if the fares aren't as good as AC (they're generally comparable). Billy Bishop is just an infinitely better experience than Pearson. Not unlike BOS-DCA, it's really nice (and not all that normal in the U.S.) to travel between airports that are so close to and connected to the city center.

I'm really interested in the Ottawa flights. We have some connections in upstate NY about an hour and 10 minutes from the Ottawa airport. We've flown Boutique to Massena, but it's a pain unless someone comes to pick us up (though the Boutique experience itself is nice). I'd consider flying to Ottawa and renting a car instead.

Yeah, but YTZ doesn't have preclearance so they have to use E. It's just interesting that there will be a "domestic" flight in E during the evening rush for the first time in eight years.

Do you have any experience with preclearance at YOW? I assume it can't be worse than YYZ.

Beginning with the 2023 summer season (begins March 26, 2023), Lufthansa is removing the 744 on the Frankfurt route and replacing it with a mix of A330-300 and A340-300. The additional frequency returns again and begins May 1, 2023 at 3 weekly with A340-300, increases to 5 weekly as of June 1, 2023, and then increases to daily as of July 1, 2023 through the end of the season in early October.

Munich service will operate the entire season with a A340-600 instead of the previously planned A350.

SWISS confirmed they are receiving an allocation of 5 A350s from the Lufthansa Group's A350 order, and these will replace their A340-300 fleet starting in 2025. Only a matter of time now until 4 engine planes are gone from Boston.

I know it's inevitable and there're good economic reasons for it, but what a bummer. There's something so much more romantic/satisfying about seeing a 4-engine jet taking off, or landing, over the city.

It's a notable decrease in the number of seats they're operating to FRA

Swiss is going to replace their A340s with A350s in the next couple of years. That will eliminate another semi-regular quad jet from Boston.

Looks like the difference between their 744 (I believe they would normally send the layout with more business class seats) and their 333 is 92 seats.

Myrtle Beach is a nice flight to have for golfers. Spirit is on the route as well. Looks like it's also only weekend service, which is not terribly useful.

They're also going double daily to Miami starting in March of 2023.

Strange that it is Sat/Sun service. Why not do Wed/Sat or Thurs/Sun????

It will be interesting to see what JetBlue does with Myrtle Beach after Spirit merger. I'm sure Boston/NYC/Florida will be kept.
