MBTA Construction Projects

Assembling the planters. Nice to see they built drains into the concrete slabs beneath them.

Man, I hope the Wellesley-Framingham triple track project doesn't get delayed any, because the temp mini-high they just installed at Wellesley Square isn't even one of those freestanding blocks with a steel deck jobs that a bunch of other stations are getting. It's just a flimsy erector set. Looks just like the *very* temporary platform extenders that Metro North had installed in rotation across the New Haven Line last decade when they were having rolling track outages to replace all the overhead catenary. This thing looks like it's designed to last months, not the 5+ years it's expected to take to get the permanent tri-track station rebuilds done.

The reopening of the Temple Place exit at Park Street sure isn't a priority - looking at December 2021 and September 2022, the extension cord hasn't even moved.

2.5 years later... Surely this is the first MBTA expansion that has had time to age and accumulate grime years before opening...

Did the contractor go bankrupt? Are they using the same contractor as the Beacon St hotel in Somerville?

The MBTA awarded it to Barletta, which despite it's issues in Rhode Island vis a vis the RT6/10 contaminated soils issue is generally seen as a reputable (and major) contractor which very much is still in business - the T just awarded them the C branch rebuild project a couple of days ago.

It almost seems like the project has been forgotten about... Last year's CIP showed a $1.9M programmed spend for FY25-29, this year's shows $0 for FY26-30, but nothing happened last year.

So badly needed. The current exit through the Google building doesn't have capacity for rush hours...
I'm hopeful that they use the experience to build more underground walkways there though. It would be very nice to have an exit that connects you to the alley with the barbershop or even to Broadway.

I want to see more integration between subway stations and adjacent buildings. For example, renewing the connections between Downtown Crossing and the commercial spaces adjoining the shopping arcade. Incorporating entries into buildings instead of dumping patrons directly in the middle of the sidewalk.

Chinatown, Downtown Crossing, State are fairly well integrated into their adjacent buildings. It would be nice to be able to get expansions where feasible elsewhere though.
