The New Retail Thread

Cafe Luna is moving its main location to Broad Canal Way, where Za / Evoo used to be. The current location on Main St will turn into a Little Luna like the one on Binney St.

Looks like the old Barnes & Noble space (recently gut renovated and sent to auction) that hasn't had a tenant in decades!
good to see them opening in Downtown Crossing, the Uniglo store in Faneuil Hall did not survive the pandemic

Here is another notable line from a Globe piece on the Uniqlo lease.

"Coincidentally, another Japanese retailer, Teso Life, is preparing to open its first New England store at nearby 459 Washington St., the site of a former Forever 21 store."

This one will come as a surprise to nobody who knows the area, but the 7-Eleven at Mass & Washington in the South End is closing next week. That store has long been plagued with sketchy people in and around it; it's kind of remarkable it's lasted this long.

The overflow from Mass and Cass claims a new victim. There are still some local grocers on Washington Street and the food establishments there are doing fine (as far as I can tell), but for retail that street is gradually reverting back into a desert.

ngl just kinda happy to see somebody giving Jahunger their flowers. Loved that place when I lived in Providence and was happy to see when they opened up the new location in Cambridge.

Confirmation of what everyone already knew, Boston’s restaurant scene is a joke.
is there a similar sized city/metropolitan area (or smaller or non Michelin I guess) that you think would do better? genuinely asking. Charleston comes to mind I guess.

New Orleans, Portland OR (not that Portland Maine is bad), Philly.

FWWI - personally, I view the results quite favorably. Most comparably sized cities and regions are awarded 0-3 stars during their first year of Michelin review. Boston is no different. I personally was expecting none, but am pumped 311 received a nod. I totally expect more to be awarded in the coming years

Where are you going (or, maybe more appropriately, where *aren't* you going) that you come to this conclusion?

Boston food discourse is way, way worse than Boston food itself
Well said.
The scene would no doubt benefit from improvement (and it will improve, now that chefs know they're in the running for a star if they set up shop here, a likely detriment previously).
But you can host a legit business dinner meeting here no problem. There are plenty of places that have significant industry, yet way less ease of hosting such.
