Logan Airport Capital Projects

Unless you live very close to these Logan Express locations, travel solo, or are traveling for several days, I don't see this being a huge advantage in terms of time or cost. I live about 12 minutes from the Framingham Logan Express. If my wife and I want to take it for a weekend trip, we need to Uber to the Logan Express (around $20 with tip, depending on demand). Then we need to pay $36 for two round trip Logan Express tickets. We are now in for $56 with the Uber. Then add $7 per day for parking and we are up to $70.

Well, if you Uber, you wouldn't need to park? So it'd be $56 for three days (or $57 if you just drove to Logan Express) versus $111 if you use the economy garage, plus the gas and the Pike tolls.

For about $15 more, I can park on my own at the airport, leave whenever I want, avoid the Uber, and skip waiting for the bus (especially on the way back home where you can wait 30 minutes for the bus if you just missed one).... As for skipping security, I am sure I will jinx myself, but it has been years since I have waited for more than 10 minutes in a TSA Pre line at Logan which to me negates the biggest advantage of this program

If you uber to logan xpress, then why are you paying for parking? Parking at the airport does eliminate the stress of catching the bus and waiting curbside, especially when arriving at midnight on a cold winter night waiting to catch the last bus (too many times). Anyway, yeah, do whatever is right for you. I do appreciate that there are other alternatives and extending airport services beyond the confines of the airport and TSA lines.

Its obviously not going to help every single individual person, but its a pilot program and until other ways are imagined and implemented this works now because once the people go through customs and then get on the bus they are in a controlled area where nothing will be able to enter or leave until the bus gets to the terminal beyond the customs point. You need the controlled access to make this work and they have it here, then on top of that its the most benefit you can get out of one location because the number of people who use logan express. All of those factors come together to make this work here.

Its good to see them experimenting and imagining new ways to do things because thats how in the future it would be able to benefit more people, like the poster who doesnt use logan express, when they can find more ways to do this. You start here and then if successful they have more locations and maybe try more things.

If Logan Express wasnt worth it - why are they always full? The Woburn location now routinely overflows to the commuter rail parking.

Overflowing LEX parking lots is a good thing. It's a sign that passenger traffic at Logan may be healthy and that people are opting to use LEX instead of driving into the airport.

JetBlue's $1 billion rebuild of terminal receives preliminary approval from Massport.

The ambitious plan calls for the demolition of Terminal C’s two “hammerheads,” so named because a bird’s-eye view of Terminal C shows a structure that resembles the tops of two mammoth nails hammered into the sides of a rectangular building. Under the proposed plan, those hammerheads, which house the long, narrow corridors where gates are located, would be torn down and replaced with a single hexagonal attachment to Terminal C,

The project will break ground in about a year. What travelers will notice is a more efficient use of space. Currently, after passing through security, travelers are directed either to the left (past Legal Seafood) or to the right (past Davio’s). In front of them is a large glass window and a flight information display board. The window and display board will be removed, making way for the entrance to the new Terminal C.

The new Terminal C will help Logan address tight space constraints as passenger numbers at the airport continue to grow. June broke records, with 4 million passengers using Logan, the highest number in a single month.

There are some new initiatives that the Terminal C renovation will not change. The forthcoming American Express Centurion Lounge, scheduled to open in 2029, will remain in its current Terminal C location, as will the new JetBlue lounge,

Terminal C needs love, but I don’t like how the main building is getting buried in a generic modern terminal building. The swooping ceiling of the main building is one of the nicest remaining distinctive features of Logan.

Looks like this would result in a gain of 2 gates? I am wondering if the two white planes are supposed to represent widebodies? Would make sense since adjacent gates would be blocked off. Depending on just who will finance it, JetBlue may not be around by the time this is built. This looks like a very solid upgrade to what is now the most outdated part of Logan.

I'm old enough to remember when the mail building was really the only part of Terminal C.

But I think this is their way of minimizing disruptions by keeping everything pre-security in place and expanding beyond security and keeping the existing piers working as long as possible while the new addition is built.

Yeah, I think 2 or 3 gates and it looks like a more dedicated/appropriate facility for Cape Air as well rather than blocking C27 all day.
Still would have some widebody-capable gates, although that looks like it might involve some blocking of adjacent gates.

CALLED IT 2 YEARS AGO! Assuming Rich Davey, Joanna Geraghty, and their respective teams at Massport & JetBlue are reading this: thank you, thank you, thank you! 🥰

Thank you for sharing these. I'm relieved to see some TLC coming to Terminal C. And I agree with others about the Terminal C piers: they gotta go.

I've long thought opportunities for the Terminal C piers to be phased out while reconstructing the terminal. I keep thinking about the 4 inward phasing gates and if it's possible to take them out of service for any period of time while a new configuration comes to fruition (gates C12, C14, C26 and C28). Instead of Terminal C featuring piers, I imagine it appearing/behaving more as the hub that it is. Reorienting it into a trapezoid where the TSA area leads you into a grand atrium/hall instead of a window wall directing you right or left would be much cooler. You'd be able to maintain a similar number of gates (if not increase them), add capacity for lounge spaces, shopping/restaurants, and even a distinctive feature similar to Changi Airport's iconic atrium. And it could/should be done across multiple levels.

I put the 'Boston Red' patented color in my proposed scheme for consistency with what was done at Terminal E (it's admittedly pretty cool), but ultimately I'm just hopeful that Massport and JetBlue are able/willing to make the meaningful investment into overhauling the terminal.

I believe the white planes belong to airlines other than JetBlue. Presumably, the widebodies are international carriers, Aer Lingus, TAP, and Etihad who currently use Terminal C.

When finished, the size of the terminal will have increased from 220,000 square feet to 300,000 square feet.

The developer is:

Vantage Group did Terminal B at LaGuardia.

The construction manager may already have been selected. If so, my guess would be Skanska / Walsh who rebuilt Terminal B LaGuardia. Turner did the Delta terminal at LaGuardia.

It will be interesting to see how the JetBlue - United alliance might play out with respect to future operations at the 'new' Terminal C.

If there are Wide-Body accessible gates, they aren't for JetBlue because JB only flies narrow body. My guess is it's an extension of international offerings for E, because they lost 4-gates off of the original proposal due to the pandemic. This may be a way to get them back in the picture.

Wow, about damn time!! Love Jet Blue but hate Terminal C, it's a wreak! The only bright spot in Terminal C is the redone connector to E. Very nice, very passenger friendly!
