Tallest building in town, can you name the city?

End of an era in Danville, IL and I would be very sad if Portland's Fidelity and Time & Temperature buildings had to be demolished due to years of neglect!

Built in 1960, this 13 story high rise is the tallest in a southern city of over 100K residents. The railroad helped it prosper in the early days and annual snowfall amount averages around an inch. The regional airport is serviced by Southwest, United and American Airlines and it's modern terminal has 6 active jetways.
Surprised no on figured this city out. New clue, it is located west of the Mississippi River and east of New Mexico.

A 10 story mid rise is the tallest in this river city which rose to prominence due to oil production and its location as a rail hub. Population topped out at 45K during its peak and the local economy gets an employment boost from the Treasury Department.

This growing city is now the 6th largest in the state and is home to the 3rd busiest commercial airport. It has two buildings of almost equal height so I included them both. The name of this town has absolutely nothing to do with what made it prosperous!

This new hotel/residential/retail tower is this city's tallest and has eclipsed the hotel on the left which held the title for decades. It is without question the second most important urban center in the state and also has the second busiest airport with mainline service by United and American.

Rapid City, SD… which I always hear with James Mason’s inimitable delivery from North By Northwest.

Been there (although I didn't stay in that hotel)... Rapid City, SD!

This once thriving river city was know for it tobacco production and important rail connections. Population peaked at around 55K back the 90's and it had a rowdy reputation through most of its existence with numerous racial incidents and corruption leadership. The 11 story tower dominates the skyline and there has been recent efforts to renovate the century old landmark with little traction.

This booming city's tallest reminds of Portland's Fidelity Building in stature and design minus the grey paint scheme. It is located in a municipality that is has grown to be one of the largest in the state and would be the largest in 11 other states! Sadly, its regional airport no longer has any commercial service which is a surprising for a metropolitan area of its size but a much larger one is only an hour away. I think I made this challenge way too easy!

This 15 story tower was finished in 1930 and opened as a hotel. It is located in an important regional hub that is a vital port and was known for its coal and lumber resources in the early days. The regional airport has a 6700' primary runway with Allegiant and SkyWest having the largest market share.

Appleton WI. Horizontal traffic lights narrowed the states significantly, and a combination of 6th biggest city in a state big enough for it to be the 3rd busiest airport straight off knocked out 3/5 of those.

Nice job and I was not aware of the horizontal traffic lights in a limited number of states. (y)
