Some updates.
they have moved all of the verizon employees out of the first floor so they can start demo and start the "retail" portion on the first floor.

Also the mural that used to encompass the lobby has been carefully removed. It is plain white. Very bland and it is a shame to see that mural go.

but they are moving pretty quick on this process.
Still no home for us. They are looking all over the city for a place to put us.
Approx 1,000 employees.

Thats about all.

Re: Verizon Building Tower

Are you sure the new owners still want you out?

I'm thinking with vacancy rates around 15% they would take any tenent they could get.

Well as it stands now they want to have us house the space till summer 2010 and yes they want us out. They plan on making the tower Residential / condos
mixed use.

And all the stuff on the first floor will be like a small grocery store, a liquor store, a laundromat.

Their vision is to make a new place for people to live and they won't have to leave their building for their basic needs.

Interesting vision . . .

Re: Verizon Building Tower

Cool ! ! ! yeah no mention about the addition in the back.
but that would be cool having the top of it lit up at night.

Re: Verizon Building Tower

I'll try and get the pix and post later.

Probably all inward facing.

The one consolation I had in getting shipped out of there was the hope that public small shops and restaurants would added to the ground floor. Instead, because these shop are meant to serve the people living/working in the building they will probably leave the ground floor facade alone and make the lobby a mini-mall.

Fantastic.

Re: Verizon Building Tower

yeah post up the pics please. . .
and Statler are you up on 7 now or Bodwoin square. I keep forgetting u work for the company too. ha ha

Re: Verizon Building Tower

Bowdoin Sq. :(

Architecturally, I like this building a lot more than Franklin St, but in every other way it is a big step down.

I have a large group of photos of the building I've been too lazy to host & post. Hopefully, I'll get them up soon.

Despite only being a seven minute walk away from 185, I feel I'm on the other side of the world (and in the middle of nowhere).

Is there any talk of moving people up to Malden? I thought there was a ton of space up there. What about Harrison Av? I heard it was too expensive to renovate like the did with Bowdoin. I also heard rumor about 100 Washington St in the S. End, which sounded good until I saw it on Google maps.

If everyone else ends up in some cool space in the Back Bay or something like that I'm going to be very bummed.

Re: Verizon Building Tower

I like the Bowdoin building more....

Move to Charles River Park and you'll be living the dream...

I do too, but the more I study the addition the less I like it.

Fixed that for you.

Now, moving to a Beacon Hill brownstone...that's the dream!

God how I hate the "West End"

Re: Verizon Building Tower

I must have been dozing. So its going to be condos. What is the "new" back going to look like? Back half of a ziggurat? Backdrop tombstone tower?

Re: Verizon Building Tower

Again no word lately of the addition.

Their main focus will be the ""don't have to leave your building" idea of one stop shopping.

You can live in the building and get all of your major things done without leaving the building, Bar, laundramat, grocery store. etc.

I am a little skeptical of it but who knows it might work.

Verizon is "leasing" the building till summer 2010.

Re: Verizon Building Tower

Interesting, unproven location for condos (hence why they're pushing the "you'll never have to leave home!" angle). But I suppose if you get the CVS a block north to stay open late, and combined with the retail in the building, you'd have a critical enough mass of retail to break the stifling 9-to-5 character of the area.

Re: Verizon Building Tower

GMACK, where did you hear the condos rumor? That would be big news.

Re: Verizon Building Tower

Jazz up the top some and I could see the Stay Puff Marshmellow man putting the moves on it.

Re: Verizon Building Tower

I have renderings I'll post when I get home don't get to exited!

Re: Verizon Building Tower

I hope the phone company mural will be put back up somewhere and won't be destroyed. What is happening to the little museum?

Re: Verizon Building Tower

yeah all I can say are rumors are rumors.

Buildings people talk to the techs downstairs who are in contact with the "developers" so who knows ha ha ha

And insofar as the CVS yeah that would help if that would be open late.
but on the up side the New Equinox gym is open till 10 or 11 so that sort of breaks the mold too of things closing early in that area.

Museum and mural are "tentatively" going to Bodoiwn square.

but again the phone co. never puts stuff in writing so all is heresay.
