That was unrelated--fire department learned the building wasn't sprinkled during a movie shoot, and the owner decided to go the cheaper demolition route (given that there were no Designated Port Area-compliant uses that were interested in the building). It was a huge loss for the streetscape...
Just pointing out that most of the project ridership isn't at the new stations. If we're in a position to invest $2b+ on individual key routes count me in. Is the #15 next?
The new stations account for 14k of the ridership. I think all the rest was at lechmere - govt ctr generated by the increased frequency. The 6 new stations are basically a high ridership key bus route.
I apologize for being obtuse, but let me make sure I've got this straight:
- decision is made to require a major transit capital investment in a corridor where current bus volumes are well below what they are in other underserved parts of the system (because the ROW happens to be there)
- one...
Don't forget Everett and Malden voters. Like Cambridge they also derive almost no benefit from the project, but if voters will be motivated by somewhat close-by transit investments being canceled we should add them into the electoral mix as well.
I walk with purpose, about a 15 minute mile. Those distance are about 2/3 mile.
Now I have an honest question. Do you think people in Central Square, Harvard Square, Cambridgeport, North Cambridge and West Cambridge will be served by a light rail line that clips a formerly industrial corner...
Wouldn't it be more logical to cut the College Ave branch and keep Union? Union is by far the biggest commercial district in the GLX project corridors and it also represents the best place for dense TOD development. When I look at Gilman through College, I just see a lot of moderately dense...
Since there's only projected to be 15k or so daily boardings at the new stations on the extension (many of those already MBTA riders), how does that translate into tens of thousands of fewer cars on 93?
Re: GE Gear Plant - Lynn
What is the smart thing to do? Doubling the length of the blue line to serve one, maybe two additional stations? Where one of those stations has a 19 minute rail connection to downtown Boston already? At a cost of more.than a billion dollars?
I don't think the 6 new glx stations are expected to carry more than the 6 station stretch of the d from reservoir to fenway. Other than the beyond airport station portion of the blue line, we're really not talking heavy rail ridership
Cantab's point about total population per census tract is irrelevant. It's the pop density that matters.
If you were looking for a corridor to implement rapid transit and could only choose two of the following criteria to guide your decision which would you choose?
1) overcrowded high...
Re: Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail
We all know that's a bogus a stat. Somerville neighborhoods rarely approach the density of everett or chelsea neighborhoods. It's Somerville's lack of commercial or industrial neighborhoods within the municipality that gave birth to that oft-repeated...
