What is that short long windowless building for, mechanics, utilities, HVAC or something? :confused:

Busses --they should offer it Wynn -- perhaps it could be refurbished and used as a cocktail lounge tied-up at the pier behind Wynn Boston Harbor -- much the same way the Peter Stuyvesant was used by Anthony's Pier 4
 
Yeah, supposed to be a swimming pool / deck up there.
 
The "New Street 'Skyscraper'" (as some of my neighbors call it) has been a bit controversial among a variety of constituencies in East Boston.

The only thing I genuinely objected to in this entire development was the demolition of this handsome industrial building in the run-up to construction.

Are working/middle class East Boston renters worried about increased gentrification and not being able to afford the neighborhood anymore? That's a valid concern though it shouldn't hold back development.

That was unrelated--fire department learned the building wasn't sprinkled during a movie shoot, and the owner decided to go the cheaper demolition route (given that there were no Designated Port Area-compliant uses that were interested in the building). It was a huge loss for the streetscape down there, but unrelated to the Eddy development.

The walls are precast concrete. There is a ventilation exhaust fan on the roof with a supply air louver towards the front of the garage. There is a car stacking system inside.

In certain areas (Eagle Hill, Jeffries Point) it's a serious concern. The demographics of those expressing the most cogent concerns are fascinating: educated folks who've adopted East Boston, having been priced out of Somerville, Cambridge, Charlestown, and South Boston.

I believe that it is solid dark gray panels there with what looks like wood trim strips.

I think that it looks more like a mechanical building to be used for HVAC, power, etc..

Wow I'm surprised to see that in East Boston of all places. I didn't think land was at such a premium there compared to other developments in more desirable neighborhoods. (No offense to Eastie but it's not the Seaport and it's not the Back Bay.)

It may be a result of the particular circumstance of this project. Remember this was originally a rehab of an existing industrial / storage structure so no option then to put a garage underneath. They eventually demolished that and built this new from the ground up, and apparently decided (can only speculate why) not to re-design with a garage below grade as might be typical for a project like this.
