IMHO this section between Farwell and California Streets should be paved. Both ends are all rutted from the rain, with channels that can catch a bike tire, and there are several muddy sections after every rainfall. It's barely functional as "transportation", vs. the parallel Pleasant Street.
Super inconvenient changes to the Fitchburg line schedule as of tomorrow. Runs are padded 10-15 mins from the May 23 schedule, with arrivals at North Station at 8:11 and 9:26 (vs. 8:03 and 9:01 before, which was still not super convenient if you have to be somewhere at 9 or shortly after). Yeah...
No indication if the other Waltham/Newton express buses (553, 554, 556, 558) will start going downtown again, or will still start/end at Newton Corner.
Do you even ride the rails of which you speak or do you just look at some numbers on paper?
Yeah, this driving route from Concord to North Station looks super-competitive with the train. 40 mins on the rails vs. close to 90 by road.

A little spreadsheet I put together with numbers from the 2014 Blue Book.

Several lines average close to 200 passengers per train on Saturday. Seems like pretty healthy ridership to me. Despite...
So many unanswered questions. Makes you wonder if Keolis and MBTA upper management actually ride the commuter rail.
Are these the standard Charlie gates? If so, how will they handle mTicket? And the current gates are notoriously slow in handling paper tickets, which many infrequent riders would...
The Globe piece includes my tweet about exactly that from last month.

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos
Why do I have little doubt this directive came from the State Police or was somehow otherwise related to "security"? "What if one of those bikes was hiding something evil?"
Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos
Nope, no exception.

The organizers arranged for a truck to transport the bikes.
Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos
Like I said, easy to argue from the comfort of one's desk.
It would have been an intriguing face-off though, whether the conductor would have followed through with delaying the train to wait for the police. If she did, I'd imagine you'd be charged...
Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos
Perhaps easier to say from the comfort of my desk, but why didn't you just board with your bike and let the conductor choose whether to depart on time or delay the train to call the Transit Police?
As you point out, there was no public announcement...
