The "MERC" at Moody & Main | Waltham

It has been a long time since I gave an update on this so here it is.

Building A on Main Street is complete and occupied with Santander & Citizens set up on the 1st Floor. The temporary citizens trailer has been removed and demolition is in progress at the old Santander Bank at 1 Moody Street. Building B is making progress with most of the outside skin on the building along Charles Street and the wood assembly completed along Moody St. Building B can not be completed until 1 Moody is demolished. Building C along Charles Street is nearly complete with crews now working on the inside.

Santander AND Citizens? Christ.

Your lord and redeemer is safe--I don't think they were ever open there simultaneously. Citizens was never there (I don't believe) until that retail wing of MERC opened; and, as you can see, "Santander" in this case is only a logo affixed to the hulk of a building under demolition, they closed months ago when the development began.

The wrecking ball crane is now quite the imposing profile on the Waltham skyline.

Citizens was located near the Library end of the property (where the first building on Main Street was built)

Demolition contractor is dropping off pieces for a major excavator, Komatsu 1250 which will demolish the steel.

Why wouldn't they just have stripped the building down to the steel frame and then retrofit it into the remainder of the project? Demolishing it seems quite wasteful.

This development is defiantly promising for Waltham. Hopefully more retail moves in other than the two banks that currently occupy the retail space.

Also unrelated to this project but it looks like renders for a new building have been posted onto the windows of 210 Moody Street. Also the foundation is being poured for the new apartment complex at Cooper Street.

Not to be petty but I posted those in a new development projects thread I set-up, "210 Moody Street," months ago. The pictures sparked a somewhat lively discussion for a few days as people ripped the renderings' faux-Disneyish appearance....

Thanks! I didn't see it in the Waltham developments page so I wasn't sure if it was posted. I hope they start demos on the current building soon, the empty businesses are definitely a drag on the vibrancy of Moody Street.
