Admittedly, if I wasn't told it was supposed to be a flag, I wouldn't have gotten it immediately, but it's an interesting application of tinting. I could see this being applied in much more complicated implementations once the technology takes hold.
-I’m glad to see this actually cleared up. There were users who had suspected they had applied a tint to the exterior of the glass midway through the construction cycle because it was light blue and then people had snapped pictures of the facade half way tinted, and then fully tinted a bit later. Someone had speculated maybe it was to stop glare from hitting the street/people/vehicles…etc. It seemed like that was the case at the time. Come to find out its electrochroamatic tinting. Guess they had thought of that ahead of time! Nice to see that the glass hasnt been permanently darkened. It says customers can adjust different zones on their own, as opposed to it being automatic, so it could lead to a pretty weird splotchy looking facade at times, but I guess well have to see it in practice.
“Boston's Seaport District featured an innovative patriotic display over the weekend: through the magic of precision tinting, the windows at our 10 World Trade project formed an American flag. Manufacturer View's cutting-edge electrochromic glass tints automatically in response to sunlight, an effect that reduces glare, boosts interior comfort and lowers energy consumption by minimizing the need for air conditioning. Occupants can also customize zones and other settings according to their needs. Thank you to View and curtainwall fabricator Island Exterior Finishes Inc for your partnership on this project.
Suffolk is thrilled to work with visionaries like developer Boston Global Investors and architect Sasaki on buildings like 10 World Trade that are transforming the built world.”
