Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

It's maybe a touch too small for this, but a part of me thinks that would be a great location for a theoretical Celtics-exclusive arena.

Is this going to languish for years? It's been what, almost 4 years now that the Haymarket site has been cordoned off?

Is anything positive happening? Is it going to be a filene's-style void?

If so, they should at least make the barriers nicer to look at--similar to the ones in Fenway by the Landmark Center construction.

Haymarket station in limbo as Bulfinch Crossing project drags on

Urban construction site with a shelter at a tunnel entrance labeled Haymarket, plywood walls, orange cone, brick paving, green fencing, and tall modern skyscrapers under a cloudy sky.

“One of downtown Boston's busiest transit hubs has been torn apart for over four years and there's no word on when the project will be finished.

Why it matters: The demolition of the former Government Center Garage has repeatedly disrupted Orange and Green Line service at the Haymarket station and shuttered the bus terminal indefinitely, forcing riders onto a makeshift busway for years…..”

"....The Haymarket bus terminal has been closed since June 2021.....
"HYM would not comment to Axios about when the project is expected to be completed.
In planning documents filed with the city, HYM said they would construct a new MBTA bus station with coverings, transit schedule screens and CharlieCard kiosks.HYM claimed the demolition of the garage would be complete by March 30, 2023....."
-----------

WHO in the Wu Administration is in contact with HYM about this in the middle of the city??????????? And WHY this (and the Copley Square Plaza by Trinity Church - less than 2 weeks before the Marathon, when officially they said , and still say, "BY April 2026" for full completion https://www.boston.gov/departments/parks-and-recreation/project/copley-square-park-improvements#:~:text=The raised grove and plaza,be completed by April 2026. ) are still sitting incomplete?

If Walsh was still Mayor, I can't help but think, things like this would have been addressed. The MINIMUM expectation for competent performance would be to deliver results on time per stated completion date - - and if not possible, TO COMMUNICATE THE DELAY AND NEW EXPECTATION TO THE PUBLIC. Not even deigning to do that second part is simple disrespect to the the public they are serving.

Gimmie a break Walsh wouldn’t have done shit. As long as they were using union guys, these contractors and developers had free reign

You’re entitled your own opinion on that. Believe it or not, they had unions all the way back in the old days when he was Mayor too. Somehow shit got done. Walsh knew how to work with them.

This doesn't seem like it's about unions, it's about a developer that is happy waiting until the frabjous day comes when lab space is magically profitable again.

It's gonna be the new Porter Square Beacon Hotel.

Once that second apartment tower is built, the north view from city hall plaza in that first pic will be completely walled off which will make it actually worth going to the plaza worth the visit for someone like me, that along with the looking at the JFK building.
