The steel is presumably 15-17 Essex Street, the site of the building whose wooden facade is still in storage. I'd just assumed that the steel was there to prop up 11-13 Essex and 25-31 Essex until a new building (incorporating a return of the original facade) was built in this spot.

Could someone post an overhead photograph (from Google, maybe) with lines designating exactly where all these parcels are? I know the basic outline, but I'm not sure I understand exactly how this huge area was broken up into sub-parcels.

Both the wooden model and the more detailed one (why did they put it in that box? It was on a table by the wall when I was last in the map room) are of the original design. So neither show any changes from what we've already seen before. Thanks for the pics!

But if it hasn't gotten any taller, chances are it's scaling OUT rather than UP.

We've seen more detailed renderings of the buildings that are to be built directly behind the ICA (and they looked pretty good, I think). They looked similar (but better) to the ones shown in this rendering of the entire site. I'll bet that those buildings next to the ICA are the only ones...

If you're a Boston resident, biking is the way to go. I could get from my apt in JP to basically anywhere in Boston/Cambridge in under 30 minutes. No traffic or parking worries, no car insurance, minimal maintenance costs.

It is on Ashburton Place. The advantage of putting an iconic tower here is that its height would be accentuated by its position on top of a hill. Here is a pic of the location. You can also see the Suffolk dorm under construction (the crane) on Somerset Street...

That first pic is great. I would love to see that shot with no car and no pedestrian, and in B&W. Would make for a picturesque portrayal of urban loneliness.
