    I agree. Just keep the existing westbound roadway, which has enough width for one lane of traffic each direction, plus left turn lanes at intersections (if parking is eliminated near intersections). Totally eliminate the eastbound roadway. .Parks and a multi-use path can be built in its place.

    I would date that photo as 1970. The Rutherford Avenue and Gilmore Bridge construction looks like it is just starting. By 1971 it was further along than this photo.

    I suppose, but it is provincial and very un-world-class city-like to be held hostage by special interests. MIT is big and powerful but hopefully we still live in enough of a democracy so that the public good overrides powerful money interests.

    Some buildings grow on you. The BU computer science building, the Verizon Building, and now this one absolutely horrified a lot of people on here at first, me included. But the first two I've come to like, and now this one is coming around as well. Funny how that works.
