Belmont Developments

I think some people, even the ones who claim they are progressives, get worried these kinds of projects will erode their home's value or lead to people they deem undesirable living in their town.

“In November 2022, the voters of the Town of Belmont voted YES to proceed with the Library Building Project and Town Meeting approved the project funding. The Library Building Committee is now proceeding its work with the Oudens Ello Architecture and its design team and Daedalus Projects, Inc (OPM) to complete the design of the Library Building Project.

The new library building is designed to meet the programmatic needs as defined through a public process during the feasibility study. The design includes:

  • A two-story building with a ground-level accessible main entry from Concord Avenue
  • A main area adjacent to the main entry with open sight lines, circulation desk, and main staircase that can be used to gather, read, and host programs and events
  • An expanded Children’s Room which also includes a dedicated story time / project room, plentiful stroller parking, and a controlled outdoor area
  • A dedicated Young Adult’s area for teens and tweens to study and hang out
  • A second floor with various seating options (e.g. tables and chairs, laptop bar, soft seating), quiet individual study areas, and group collaboration rooms
  • Dedicated spaces such as a maker space, technology room, digital media lab, Belmont History wing, and outdoor areas for classes and events
  • A community room with after-hours access that can be used for meetings, concerts, and events
  • A sustainable, energy-efficient approach including an all-electrical building, rooftop solar, daylighting, and a highly insulated building envelope”

Stick, I'm one of you biggest fans, and to me you're one of the MVP's of this site........... but this one is a bit deep in the weeds. Someone built a house. Not sure it's really newsworthy, but that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

haha, I mean thats funny, but at the same time, I think any construction in the inner suburbs is up for grabs, especially if it's new multi-unit construction. For the hood around Waverly, a townhome project would certainly be newsworthy to anyone who lived in this hood. If it was a new, single family home in Wrentham, maybe not, but here, Im ok with it. It speaks to a greater density of what Im sure was previously SFH and thats urban change which is what this site is all about.

“Urban change”? It's literally one house with two units. I don’t understand how 147 Lexington Street is "urban change".

That is one extremely bizarre looking duplex. I expect to see the American Gothic farmer dude and his wife holding a pitchfork upright, standing in front of this thing.

I see a stylized grinning pig face in the arrangement of windows.

It’s not lol…that neighborhood is all multi family units…mostly 2-3 each. It would be newsworthy if someone built a modern version of 100 Lexington st. I got this update from BLDUP today and was so confused.
