I suspect the scrap metal yards will be gone as development in Everett advances.

Idyl Fenway | 60 Kilmarnock St | Fenway

Not crazy about prefab brick panels generally, but they did a good job on this one. No vertical seams noticeable.

*Here we go 'a Storrowing". Sounds like an old English folk tune.

    Crazy Highway Pitches

I fully agree. Massachusetts doesn't need ugly suburbs, traffic, and auto-oriented sprawl from horizon to horizon. Transit (bus or rail), and facilities for active transportation, are the answer, not more sprawl-inducing highway lanes.

    Green Line Reconfiguration

Access to Logan from all points along the Red Line would be helped by the Red-Blue Connector. Sure, the Silver Line goes directly (sort of) from South Station to Logan, but a more direct heavy rail line connection is needed, which the Red-Blue Connector would provide.

    "Dirty Old Boston"

Yes, a building is personal, has soul, began as an idea in a cultural and personal context, and has a fabled history. All of that is a big part of architecture.

    "Dirty Old Boston"

A little bit more info about the Travelers Building that was at 125 High Street, built in 1959 and demolished in 1988. I remember at the time it was built as being a really big deal for Boston, one of the first new sizeable office buildings to be built after World War Ii. It predates Boston's...

    "Dirty Old Boston"

I loved the Travelers Building on High Street ^ (now demolished). I worked there in 1967-68 on the 13th floor in the mailroom while I was in high school, for Cabot Corporation. Great people, great company, great building.

I'm tending to think they've run out of steam, and will leave that gap in the lid next to Brookline Ave. Time will tell.

Seaport Neighborhood - Infill and Discussion

Raised crosswalks can be a problem on streets that have snow plowing, although the snow plowing can be done if done carefully.

Is the plan to join the new lid to the Brookline Ave bridge over the Mass Pike, or leave the gap?

    Aerials

I highly doubt the architects of the Verizon Building consciously emulated the Analex building. The similar vibe, for me, between the two buildings is that they both have an industrial look, especially the windows, and they are both similar in shape. For me it's more of a feeling. I get a...

    Aerials

The window design and arrangement had that classic 1930s industrial office look, which the Verizon building's base (the bottom 8 stories) has deliberately paid homage to. The Verizon building gives a big nod to the Analex building in both its window design and its massing. When I was a kid in...

The Analex Building (to the right of the old North Station), is one of my favorite buildings from that era.
