MassDOT Rail: Springfield Hub (East-West, NNERI, Berkshires, CT-Valley-VT-Quebec)

I thought we'd established that from WOR people drive to PVD or HVN or STM and catch the train if not driving all the way?

MassDOT Rail: Springfield Hub (East-West, NNERI, Berkshires, CT-Valley-VT-Quebec)

Thanks, @The EGE and @F-Line to Dudley for doing the math I think 3 r/t per day departing BOS at 5:30a, 7a and 4p with a final return at 1am is a pretty darn sweet NHV schedule 5:30a starts and 1a returns have been the standard way of getting an otherwise unused train set to/from the “new...

MassDOT Rail: Springfield Hub (East-West, NNERI, Berkshires, CT-Valley-VT-Quebec)

If you wanted to extend the trips above to make one daily Inland to NYP: When must an Inland leave BOS to get to "be" the SPG start at 7:50am ? When would an Inland leaving SPG at the 10:40pm end wind up getting to BOS ? Not that that's the only choice of timing, but it again has me thinking...

MassDOT Rail: Springfield Hub (East-West, NNERI, Berkshires, CT-Valley-VT-Quebec)

So, apparently we missed the fact (or at least I missed it) that since June 3 Amtrak & CTDOT/MNRR have been running SPG-NYP through service in slots previously used by an MNRR and a Shuttle. I reformatted and bolded the Amtrak May 22 press release Amtrak Adds More Northeast Regional Service to...

There is a bus lane on Mystic Ave and there probably could be a rush direction, bus and bike only lane similar to how Cambridge has done it on mass Ave

    Commuter Rail to New Hampshire?

We’ve definitely discussed the Eastern Route on AB and I recall: 1) getting through the nuke plant at Seabrook was tricky 2) I don’t remember that there were full breaks in the ROW, just a rail trail issue 3) the bridge In Newburyport $$$

MassDOT Rail: Springfield Hub (East-West, NNERI, Berkshires, CT-Valley-VT-Quebec)

Circa 2003, a friend from UK felt tricked when he accepted rebooking from a Regional to an Inland. I see no need for end to end. NHV-HAR-SPG-WOR-FRA-BOS seems a sufficiently awesome set of cities to be worth it just for online demand an a little bit of connectivity at NHV and BOS, With a few...

    Electronic Tolls (& Avoidance)

For e-tolling to be fair, plate pass has to work. For plate pass to work, plates must be readable (not covered or effaced) Do “clear” covers make plates unreadable? Should driving effaced/covered have the same consequences as driving with no plate? I would say so. Do we (NH MA ME) have the...

That was either not possible or not obvious to several travelers I saw attempt to get though the gate with a ticket. One was my son (I had my card, he had a ticket) and I think it was only that I broke the beam on the exit side and the gate opened and let him in.

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

A peoplemover can't come soon enough at logan. The 22 bus was horrendously bad at 5pm on a Wednesday even though they've attempted to make it less-bad by separating terminal drop off from terminal pickup. Suggestions: 1) If Logan is going to run DROP-OFF ONLY 22s why not drop off on the...

Why does the BL AIrport station vending machines sell Charlie Tickets, but none of the faregates apparently take them? (Including the only one that doesn't have a "Charlie Cards Only" sign on it). Or were the ones that take Charlie Tickets hidden on the other side of the unstaffed information...

    Post-COVID Urbanism Discussion

SOM’s proposal for 1633 Broadway in NYC could be a model for converting more-recent big floor plate office buildings: cut grooves into the monolith, re-mass as a podium and penthouses. One Beacon would be an ideal candidate...

Commuters Ditched Public Transit for Work From Home. Now There’s a Crisis.

I like @king_vibe ’s point: the same transit system can now support MORE nearby home and office development because there are fewer trips per day per square foot than before

I hope other Bostonians will take an interest in this request by @Beaconhillwalker I've drawn my picture of the intersection (Mt Vernon uphill as Walnut tees out on the right). Today, an uncontrolled right turn is permitted (the "right turn only" sign can be seen) And when there's a vehicle...

    Post-COVID Urbanism Discussion

I see National and NYC numbers that suggest that work from home is the new normal. Do we have anything similar for Boston? There was also a good article on how pre-air conditioning buildings, with their short window-to-interior dimensions are ideal for housing conversion The implication is...
