Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

The real proposal (for, ahem, the North South Rail thread) is simply the Bus Lane Starter Kit: Congress St : North - South - East (its entire length) Stuart-Kneeland-Albany : West - South (connects to Congress at Altantic Wharf) This does not give you NSRL's "through running" but it does give...

License Plates & EZPass (Toll / Speed Enforcement)

I can't figure out if any/all covers are illegal, or just ones that "obscure" https://www.wwlp.com/news/local-news/hampden-county/more-local-drivers-using-illegal-license-plate-covers/ AAA New England on this topic...

License Plates & EZPass (Toll / Speed Enforcement)

I'd like to log here our collective wisdom on how licensed vehicles "participate" or "opt out" of automatic enforcement in Greater Greater Boston. As we rely on plate-readers for toll collection, and potentially for congestion zones, red light cameras (Providence), or speed cameras, the ability...

Northern Avenue Bridge Fort Point Channel

I visited Des Moines Iowa, and, I gotta say, their ability to build dramatic, functional bike-ped-only bridges seems several levels above Boston's game. Downtown Rehabbing a rail bridge into bike/ped: Des Moines Union Railway Bridge (south crossing for the downtown riverwalk) Pedestrian Bridge...

Silver Line at 21: Do people like it now?

Agree with @Charlie_mta that center-running bus lanes should be the standard. I think that Boston wasn't politically ready for center-running back in 2001 even if it was considered "standard" for BRT it was not standard for how Boston thought about its streets. But here, a generation later...

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Are they just going to build the occupiable space as a stack of steel donuts hung / cantilevered from that central concrete core?

Silver Line at 21: Do people like it now?

And yet I find myself wishing other routes were as high-frequency, that other routes had designated bus lanes, and that other busy stops were as nicely sheltered. And saying that SL3 extensions west of Chelsea and inward toward Cambridge would also be better. So I can't hate it that much if I...

Massachusetts State Flag (we need a better state flag)

Meanwhile, we missed this lack-of-progress update from November https://www.wgbh.org/news/politics/2022/11/15/for-massachusetts-no-news-of-a-new-state-seal-or-motto

Utah has done a super job changing their flag from seal-on-blue-sheet to a real logo (compare new flag, top, to current flag, bottom) https://flag.utah.gov/final-flag-designs/

    The Seaport Canal

When I play connect-the-parcels here, it is usually for a surface light rail line and pedestrianway. The problem with actual water is that it becomes an actual channel for superstorm inundation...I'd want to make sure it isn't an end run around the Fort Point Channel flood barrier.

Union Square Somerville Infill and Small Developments

Nice. From the founding era of Citco when it was called Cities Service Co. [additional question] Did they tie it into the building at the back? Similar to the Rosebud Diner in Davis (which is a portal to a much larger restaurant), this seems like a *great* portal to a larger space or at least...
