License Plates & EZPass (Toll / Speed Enforcement)

I'd like to log here our collective wisdom on how licensed vehicles "participate" or "opt out" of automatic enforcement in Greater Greater Boston.

As we rely on plate-readers for toll collection, and potentially for congestion zones, red light cameras (Providence), or speed cameras, the ability to read plates becomes a critical part of revenue and enforcement.

Where he documents:

• Foldaway front plates
• License plate covers (are these illegal in New England states?)
• Folded over plate edges (conceal first or final digit)
• Obscuring items (leaves, tape, stickers)
• Defaced plates (peeled or corroded in patches)

Chicopee Police said you can't use a license plate cover if it interferes with the visibility of your license plate.
