This has been making me nuts for days. I recall reading about the painted west facade of many cathedrals. I can’t find the actual article, but the Wiki for Amiens talks briefly about the annual festival that they host with some proprietarytech to make it appear what they it actually looked it...

“Hurt” or “impact”? I live, work, and play inside 128, and I’m okay with charging anyone who feels it’s their God Given Right to pal round my neighborhood. Tolling the suburbanites who are so mad they got a ticket for parking in a Resident Only spot (after 8:00 PM, weekdays), when they were up...

Haven’t peaked at this thread for ages, but this reminded me of a rumor from old TOTH managers that Boston Properties (BPX) hoped Eddie V’s would be the interim TOTH while BPX renovated for a new Skywalk/dining experience. Not sure how that’s worked out, given the only view from V’s is...

They crane equipment and materials onto them and then hump it into the building. Before they closed up the south facade, looked like it was HVAC units. edit to add: “… looked like it was HVAC units they were loading in.” Sorry, incomplete sentence. I was Zooming and replying, oops. Also...

That horrible ‘50s-ish pile of indignity is owned by Christian Science, think it’s addressed as 180-190 Mass Ave. FCCS had a deal to redevelop into a 30-some floor midrise but it fell through during lockdown. Then, the long-term tenant vacated the office space. There’s apparently a non-profit...

Random question I don’t know where to post. Anyone know what’s up with the Old Hancock’s beacon that flipped to green the other night?

I have to respectfully disagree. That Boston.blah article was a mugging, and it seems they’re just butt-hurt about the lack of parking. Super petty, but it’s the Boston Glob’s ignorant little sibling, so, lol. Peebles had the rug pulled out from under them, twice, (due to no fault of their...

It’s 260-262 Comm Ave, a former Bay State frat house being redeveloped by the most inept collection of morons I’ve ever observed. 1010 is pulling their hair out at the incompetent manner in which they demo’d without a permit, screwed the abutters on both sides, and don’t have even a casual...

I’d heard whispers the impediment was Harold Brown’s (RIP?) The Hamilton Company, who wouldn’t entertain an easement across their abutting property to the west—or, at least not at the price Samuels was willing to pay to connect to Ipswich outbound to Fenway Park.

Things were super-bonkers back in the day. Lawrence Berk, founder of what is now the Berklee College of Music empire, apparently had a rent-controlled penthouse in the Boylston (now, Ava) residential building. A rent-controlled penthouse. I don’t even know how that works!

True! It was a disgusting narrow but long store, huge rodent issues, and no windows since it was all under the Boylston arcade. Others who lived nearby back then (kz?) might remember it. The new Shaw’s (now downgraded to Star) was a wonder when it first opened.

Some of the trees are dying and an arborist recommended removing them before a failure or potential for one to fall over. Something about the root balls not having anywhere to go/grow. They committed to replacement trees equal to or more than the existing shade cover. I have been wondering...

Literally just face-palmed. Why didn’t I think of that!

The steel is just galloping upwards, good for them! A query, did they jump the main crane (Boylston) back down a section? I hadn’t been by for a couple weeks due to July 4 vacation travel back to Ireland. It looks lower than I thought it did in early June. Anyone know? Curious if that’s a...

Random question: what’s up with the goofy entrance to 300 sf of nothing at the SE corner of the building, east of the parking garage doors and opposite the NEU entrance to the Colonnade building at 101 Belvidere? It remains a raw space with workers storing tools and supplies, but there’s no...

Just saw this when the thread got bumped; is this that ridiculous frat house-to-condo project at 262 Comm Ave that has been stalled since pre-pandemic times? The building to the east/left seems to match (hard to tell tho, they had put the scaffold back into plastic last time I was by, roughly...

I loved walking through and stopping to look at this sculpture some 25 years ago. I echo the query earlier in this thread, if anyone knows where it went after Boston Properties renovated. I have a tickle at the edge of my brain that it was a long-term loan from the artist, who maybe took it...

Theatrical/venue construction has huge lead times (it’s all custom to the room) and then they have to tune/test the hall; that, combined with supply chain issues, are why I’m not surprised at 2023.

Rumor at street level is it was VEd due to the massive cost overruns when they failed to deliver on time.

At one of the public meetings, Boston Property said their arborist advised they are showing signs of stress (dying), and would be replaced no matter approve of the plan. They do have replacement of an equivalent shade coverage in their proposal, IIRC.
