4-6 Newbury Street | Back Bay

Re: New Building Proposed for Newbury Street

Refined, subtle, slightly curious - a great Boston building.

Can we get a dozen more of these, por favor?

I don't like the gap between this and the building next door. None of the other buildings in the area that I noticed have gaps like this. This really isn't as amazing as many of you are making it out to be. It's fine, but that's about it.

That gap is a public passage leading to the alley between Boylston and Newbury. I always thought it was cool. But I agree about the building itself.

First we'll start with the ass end...

And now for the front.

Clean, elegant, quite, classy.

Nothing wrong with that.

Quality project.

Very well done. This is a great mixing of the old and new styles. It fits with the character of the area and the quality designs, but it doesn't just do a fake, historic. It fits well while also being new and modern.

This project is so brilliantly contextual. The repetition of the window bays and respect for the surrounding context's cornice line at the roof is just fantastic. It's exactly how you build a modern infill building in a historic area. This is another home run for CBT. I continue to absolutely love their work. This is architecture.

First closing took place the last week of December. Unit 601 closed for $7,817,500.

Great shots, KZ. I don't recall seeing this one in person yet but from the photos it looks like a great fit.

RE: the 8 Newbury rehab. I prefer what's there now. And I hope this doesn't mean that Firestone and Parson's isn't moving or closing. They always have interesting window displays, and a standing add in the New Yorker. Bought my wife's engagement ring there.

They already moved, they're a few doors east of Allen Edmonds.

I wouldn't mind more interesting spandrel on 8 Newbury. The brick is kind of boring.
