ACKS | 100 Binney | East Cambridge

Just an FYI for the explorers out there, this and its counterpart help form a new amazing street canyon on Linskey Way. It's a really cool street to walk down.

The only thing that's a real bummer here is the dearth of retail in these developments. Between this and Northpoint, East Cambridge looks like a missed opportunity to build a thriving downtown-type area.

I couldn't agree more. I worked in that area for 7 years (no longer) and although it's better now, there is tremendous lack of food establishments, let alone simple retail.
 
It would have been nice if the Alexandria Center did for Binney what SoMA is planning to do for Main Street/Kendall proper. I thought that was the original idea here, but looking at the ACKS site, I think they mention 20,000 sf of retail across all of the buildings. That's a drop in the bucket in this area.
 
Was this a string of parking lots back in the day? Question for you guys, the fit and finish of the exterior looks like high quality stuff. Am I correct? Also, is there a tenant(s) yet?
 
I would say YES to all three questions. Knowing ab members there will be a discussion about the quality of materials.

Yes big parking lot.

Exterior quality is debatable I'm sure.

One tenant taking I believe 50% of the space is Bristol Myers Squibb.
The other half is possibly being looked at by a prospective tenant, but that is classified info.
 
I really want to like this and 50-60 Binney but that won't happen soon. Maybe today's disdain will mellow into tomorrow's appreciation of eccentric, Hawaiian shirt architecture.
