Alfond Foundation $500 Million gift to multiple Maine entities

Unless the macro situation radically changes, I'd be extremely surprised to see a medical school. That study said one would need millions a year in tax subsidies, and the Legislature won't even fund basic undergrad programs decently.

Which sport is that for between softball and the track & field layout? Lacrosse?

Also, I like the way the photo implies that shortly after crossing the river, you are plunged into eternal darkness and then fall off the edge of the earth.....

Field Hockey. And the entire South endzone of Alfond Stadium where the remaining track section remains and the adjoining parking lot will be the new $100 million Morse Arena. While geography and demographic challenges remain....I think ti is safe to say that UMaine will no longer be at the bottom of th barrel when it comes to D1 athletic facilities.

WBRC and has posted a new interior rendering and more details about Morse Arena on their site....

I bet even a certain someone on here is impressed with the Pine Club and its amenities. 😂😉

One of 2 elevator shafts topped off. More concrete pouring for exterior walls. For those of you familiar with campus....Long Rd. is being completely repaved.....and realigned near Memorial Gym and the sharp turn near the Mall (visible if you look closely through the concrete boom pump). Old pavement has been excavated. Also parking lot in picture will be completely excavated, renovated and expanded...parking spots will be reconfigured to face North/South rather than the current East/West.

Judging by all of the close parking being gobbled up, maybe a parking garage or two could do wonders for everyone on campus. Trying to find parking for sporting events could be a mofo!

Excavation has started on the Dunn/Corbett lot across from the Morse Arena site. This lot will be expanded and reconfigured to add more spaces and improve traffic flow.

They should build a garage between alfond and the Football field, its awful when alfond or anyone has an event. You want to talk about gridlock. Usually its bumber to bumber from the Black Bear Inn all the way to alfond. its also backed up from the Alumni association building to Alfond on College Ave.

If UMaine football sold out - 10k or more then there would be a serious parking situation in Orono. Then if by a blue moons chance there was also a hockey game at the same time?! Yikes! The locals would be talking about that day as if Phish was playing at Loring!

Here's one of the newly expanded parking lots...top right hand corner.

The newly expanded parking lot will help, but like the comments above, it'll most likely fill fast. There is a lot of parking on the eastern side of the campus, but it looks like a haul to get to the sporting arenas. UMaine just needs to pony up the funds to create more CLOSE parking near these facilities, which will enhance the college experience for students and fans alike. I think parking in this area, for the most part, has been an afterthought.

I think if a garage is ever built it will either be near the Union/Collins Center......or possibly where the Gannett lot/Cutler Health Center footprint is.....I've outlined that area in this image.

As someone who did not attend Orono, how much of a tailgating culture is there at their games? Because if it's much of a thing, that kind of negates the garage idea, at least for football.

It's a thing.....but ebbs and flows with the game times and dates (September, late start games and Homecoming are busier). I think that the new lots will be better suited for tailgating and traffic flow.
