The future has arrived and is very welcome indeed. Love it.

Re: Artists for Humanity - 100 W. 2nd

I think that's a pretty hideous design but I love the overall concept.

Re: Artists for Humanity - 100 W. 2nd

The existing building is so understated and elegant

The new building... Well, I will just charitably say it provides a striking contrast.

Re: Artists for Humanity - 100 W. 2nd

I just feel like there's no way they will pull this off in a way that looks good.

Re: Artists for Humanity - 100 W. 2nd

I think you're all being a little unfair. The architects had the unenviable job of attempting to design a home for the bee-people. I'm not sure anyone her could have done much better.

Re: Artists for Humanity - 100 W. 2nd

Behnisch (of Genzyme Center fame) is better than this and capable of much more elegant restraint, while still fulfilling the programmatic requirements. This looks like a jr/sr studio project, and that's not a good thing. It needs refining.

It would be a shame to tarnish Arrowstreet's original socially and environmentally conscious Artists for Humanity Epicenter. I did a case study on the Epicenter in college - just a spectacular building. It was the first LEED Platinum building ever built in Boston.

be careful, soon we will be told "you just dont get it"

Also maybe VE might be a positive in this case

Haven't you been paying attention? That is the trend in "ARTcitecture" these days. See OMA, BIG, REX and all of their minions. This is just following the trend.

Re: Artists for Humanity - 100 W. 2nd

Uh, stupid question. What is the consensus on what neighborhood this would be in?

Re: Artists for Humanity - 100 W. 2nd

Ok, that was my first thought too. Just wanted to check. Thanks.

It's whatever neighborhood you'd consider Broadway Station to be in, likely "Southie."

I'm all for understated and elegant but the occasional look-at-me diva is also necessary. What better place than an art center to push past the Boston default styles of Generic and Average.

+1
I agree with you on this brad. It might be a bit overdone or overly exuberant but how many buildings in Boston really come close to those descriptions aside from some of the PoMo from the 80s which is not all that dominant especially in this part of the city. I think this is a fitting building for what and where it is, at least overall in the grand scheme of things.

Agreed. I really like it.

Can someone explain that last render to me? It looks like they've turned the street in front of the building into a parking lot?
