AstraZeneca/Alexion | 290 Binney Street | Kendall Square

Late evening light 7.3.24 from the Volpe site:

^ The other thing I'll point out is the Binney Street face of this building is actually tilted in two dimensions: vertical, of course, but it is also tilted horizontally such that the corner of the building furthest from the camera, above, is tilted around counter-clockwise toward the camera. You can see the triangular framework in the floor plates that also illustrate this effect.

Based on these geometric designs, I think this building is going to have a pretty cool visual effect from street level.

^If you look closely at the bottom-left corner of the tower in the second photo, you can see the facade starting to go in. The mullions have a really cool pattern. From a distance / in the shadow / from phone camera/ etc., you can't make out much detail, but I believe what we're seeing is this:

It doesn't come across in these close-ups, but this project has enormous skyline presence. It will be the first tall building you see from the northwest, too, so it will keep that presence.

Given that it sits behind this building, I actually think the skyline impact of the residential tower will be limited. The Volpe site one, with an extra 100 feet to work with, should be more visible.
