Attleboro Developments

@Shawmut

Thanks for the update! Looks good so far. It's fun watching buildings like this go up in smaller cities/towns. Mansfield is building up too with two buildings next to the train station.

Mansfield is in a good spot. The train station is actually downtown (like in Attleboro), as opposed to say Sharon's or Canton's. Mansfield has always been more open to multi-unit housing than Foxboro or other neighboring towns.

Good progression on Renaissance Station South

So they want to raze this for a piece of crap 5 story "anywhere" building? These are not the decisions that make our towns better, our state better, or our country better. It looks like this would be a huge loss architecturally.

Am I in the wrong spot, or is this what the building looks like today?

If I'm not wrong, then (while it's sad that we can't have the pretty building in your picture) the old hotel might be beyond saving/restoring.

Honestly I don't know. It was the first image on a google search, and the next image was the same building. It looks like it's possible that the real damage was already done, and this is just finishing the job in order to build Vox on Attleboro.

I agree the design isn't super inspired, but I like that it tries to build a streetwall on Main and the parking is hidden under the building. I'm surprised, though, that there will only be one-bedroom and studio units. No demand for larger units here?

This is what it looks like now. It has fallen into disrepair and most of the detail on the outside of the building is gone. I know the Historical Commission is going to ask the developer if they can incorprate any of the old features into the new design but its a long shot.

@DZH22 No it doesn't look amazing like that anymore. It has changed a lot since it was first built.

Is there documentation on when the building lost its top floor?

@RandomWalk That's a good question. I'm not sure. I remember reading something about a fire on the top floor, but I don't remember where I read that or if it it's accurate or not.

15,000 square feet commercial space and 350 residential units with a shuttle connection to the nearby train station. That's a lot of residential for this area right off route 1A. Makes sense though with all the stores, restaurants, and train station right there.

Golf seems to dying anyway. Atlantic Golf Center will be the third golf course to die off in Attleboro if this development gets approved.

It's not a golf course. Mainly a driving range with what looks like mini golf and some putting greens.

A shuttle is a really good idea since South Attleboro (pre-Rona) was jam packed. Actually I was wondering if it might be better to go to the regular Attleboro stop simply because it's that busy but it's such a straight shot to SA that it's not worth it.

It's not. In fact Covid was probably one of the best things that could have happened for the game as it's brought in a ton of new interest. Some of that will drop off, but some of it won't.

Not that golf was really dying before that... it's just not a game that people outside of certain income brackets know or think about.

Pathetic.

Work starting soon on the Foster Building Apartment project. Demo in foreground from old Kidstown building which will become parking for apartments.
