Couldn't Gillette Stadium host the soccer matches?
What about BU's stadium.....I would assume field hockey could be played there.

Can Men's and Women's basketball be in the same arena as Men's and Women's gymnastics? seems like they might need to split those up since there are almost always basketball games going throughout the majority of the summer games. Also, I think smaller events like archery, judo, table tennis etc. could be held in spaces like the convention center and not in arenas like Agganis and DCU that hold 7,000+. typically those sports (at least at the 2 summer games I have attended) draw only about 1,000-2,000 spectators save perhaps for the finals.

True and I never thought of that, I think that's a good point

Soccer games are actually spread out through multiple cities. Boston olympics could include games at giants stadium and RFK stadium.

Check out what London is doing for its games.

Do you honestly think Boston has any kind of chance with venues like Nickerson Field?

Rinky-dink.

Ages ago, this city stopped thinking big enough to snag an Olympics.

Impossible? No, but something pretty fundamental better change.

Some of the sports listed could be hosted in much smaller arenas. My understanding is that Olympic boxing is rarely held in 15000 seat arenas -- more like the smaller arenas like Agannis or Conte Forum. Likewise, volleyball would be in a smaller arena (Conte-sized).

Gymnastics needs a dedicated arena, cannot double up with hoops.

Several events (taekwondo, table tennis, judo, etc.) could be hosted at the BCEC, which I'd also use as the media center. My only concern would be the Pike running beneath could be a security risk.

Beach volleyball - Carson Beach.

The IOC values a "compact games". Many cities with facilities no better than Boston's have received high technical scores.

The problem is the symbolism of awarding them to a rinky-dink place on the world stage.

What is that land used for now? I assumed it was part of the container port.

Absolutely, but I believe this was the site of the doomed stadium Kraft wanted to build. The Southie old timers blocked that one hard.

Actually, I think the entire Seaport could be developed as an Olympic zone: athlete's village (a few taller residential towers plus a street grid of 6 story residential condos), a stadium that could be scaled back to house the Revolution, the media center (BCEC) would be adjacent, easily walkable from the red line and South Station (not to mention water taxis).

^ An exciting concept.

Much too exciting for Boston, which has become a stupidocracy.

Used??

Does land in Boston have to be USED?

Can't it just lie fallow like Allston?

Or like the Seaport, all those spaghetti ramps, much of Charlestown, NorthPoint or half a dozen other places?

Sadly, most Olympic Villages are trash, urbanistically. It would be exciting if a Boston Olympics could buck this trend, but I'm afraid a Seaport Olympic Zone would wind up looking a lot like the current Seaport.

Best you can hope for anyway. After the games, the dormitories get taken over by students.

Here is another reason why Bostonians should get an olympics one day,,

They made a great movie about how loyal we are to are sports teams (Fever Pitch!)

A moot thread.

The USOC has decided not to nominate any US city for the 2020 games, nor does it know whether it will nominate a US city for the 2024 games.

How can they decide to be such quitters?

Crybabies ... two consecutive losses ... and they won't play anymore!

Btw, can you provide a link?
