BU Development Thread

I saw the Myles Standish work and was extremely worried that they were removing an iconic building for the area. Glad to see they are just renovating!
 
Myles was in desperate shape and need of repair. I would consider this a reconstruction (albeit with modern flourishes) rather than a renovation.

How has aB managed to entirely miss the new performance arts center on Comm Ave near the bridge?
 
I like the front of this building a lot - it's basically the first BU building (outside of the new law annex, but that's hidden behind STH) which actually invites people inside.

I lived in Myles back in the 90's. While I was boozed up most of the time, what was historic about the inside? I don't recall it having too many special features aside from that racquetball court in the bowels of the basement.

i also lived there in the (early) '90s! i'd imagine he/she is referring to the trim and other period pieces around the interior of the first floor(?). nothing super monumental or worth shedding a tear over, necessarily, but it was largely untouched.
 
^ Dated a girl who lived there once. The only thing I remember that was historic (besides that relationship) was the cramped lobby area with the dark wood trim and the visitor check-in booth.

But it was tough to tell how much of that stuff was legit historic (e.g., as in from the the hotel that used to be there before BU took it over), versus just really old stuff that BU installed when they turned it into the dorm. For example, I remember turnstyle things that probably had nothing to do with the original hotel.

Babe Ruth supposedly used to stay there. Maybe his ghost still haunts it.
 
yup, heard about the babe connection. i also hit quite a few homeruns while at myles. heh
 
BU has been pretty faithful to the original character of the interior while retrofitting it for modern use. CAS deserves the same treatment.

Yes, the first floor had a lot of wood trim, and some nice old staircases.
