Cambridge Infill and Small Developments

I really really really dislike the cantilever. Looks terrible, uninviting and makes the development feel inhuman.

Is that new? I kind of dig it.

Its been on here before, but it was this render.

"Imminent" announcement on the Constellation Center. Article is mostly interesting because it explains some of why this project has fallen off of Cambridge's radar.

I wonder if MIT is putting money in, since this will be very relevant to their Volpe development across the street.

While that would be cool, I wouldn't get your hopes up - The Constellation Center, last article I saw, had less than $50 million, even being liberal. MIT can't afford that difference for pure community betterment.

I would bet it's either the park or a new BS proposal.

The expansion involves a third North Point building, totaling about 300,000 square feet, similar in size to the one EF opened in 2014. The new, 12-story building would include office and educational space, student housing units, and a fitness center. It would be on a 3-acre parcel EF plans to buy from the state Department of Conservation and Recreation for $20 million. The deal would allow the agency to build a new maintenance and operations facility.

An EF spokesman said the company also recently acquired a property nearby on Monsignor O’Brien Highway, across from the Museum of Science. EF employs about 1,150 people locally, but expects that will grow to 1,650 by 2024.

Framing going up at Pearl/Auburn site in Cambridgeport (former 1-story commerical block that consisted of an auto shop, Baraka Cafe, and a hair salon). There is a second foundation poured between this unit and Auburn Street, though it still seems set back from Auburn by a bit:

I walk by this every day to the T, it looks nice in person. A lot better than what it was.

Yes! Redevelopment there can't come soon enough. That site is heavily polluted with perchloroethylene, a toxic dry cleaning solvent, and has sat vacant for years. Cleaning that up and building retail with office on top will be a clear win for the corridor. It's pretty much the only vacant storefront between Harvard and Porter on Mass Ave.

The relationship between Harvard and the barbershop has been contentious at times, so I'm somewhat surprised but happy to see it being retained in this development.

This is apparently a go. A window sign posted by Harvard says a multi-story building will be constructed and remediation has started and will continue into June. Don't know if this exact proposal is what will be built but it will probably be similar: https://www.cambridgema.gov/~/media...2016/1607massave/lpr_1607mass_plans.pdf?la=en

Not sure if this was discussed elsewhere, but...

MIT's ugly-ass central utilities plant residing between Vassar and Albany Streets is getting a re-do/addition. The visual improvement will be on the Albany St. side. The surface lot/backside of the existing plant will get an addition with a decent facade:

Here's the old view / what will be blocked by the new facade:
