This HLS building is flying up. They demoed the old buildings on this site in September/October of last year. That's only 6-7 months ago, and the new building is already pretty much fully framed out.

Meanwhile, the Beacon Hotel project has been u/c for over two years now and they're still adding structural steel. At this rate it probably has another two years to go.

Harvard may sit on land-banked property for decades, but once they decide to start building they don't eff around.

Those curtains will never be opened. The rooms will be too exposed. They wasted so much money on the glassy bays. It looks ridiculous. Not even to mention the red panels that look like an afterthought.

The contractor for the Beacon Hotel is the same one who built the Porter Square Hotel, the former White Hen site, and the recently completed mixed use building on Broadway. They appear to have one person working any one of the projects at one time.

King Open/Cambridge Str. Upper School and Community Complex. A very large project which don't think has been mentioned before.

Very strange this doesn’t have its own thread... It seems like everything in Cambridge goes under this thread unless it’s in Kendall. Just drove by this yesterday and the thing is i it seems like everything in Cambridge goes under this thread unless it’s in Kendall. Just drove by this yesterday and the thing is huge. Totally dominates the streetscape of Cambridge Street, will be interesting to see how it turns out.

Cambridge Day: Constellation Center land in Kendall Square will be sold

So the "Constellation Charitable Foundation" sat on this parcel for 22 years without paying a cent of taxes as its value skyrocketed. The "Charitable Foundation" performed zero "charity" in this time, but somehow still accumulated costs as high as $300 million for "painstaking acoustical research".

The City of Cambridge added the parcel to that tax roles this January, and just a couple months later it's up for sale. I'm not a tax expert, but I believe that the non-profit status of the "Charitable Foundation" means no capital gains taxes will be paid either.

What a scam. The City should get to take 22 years' worth of taxes out of the sale price.
