Conley Terminal Capital Projects

Are they putting a light in where this merges into Summer St., or is if just going to blend?

Yes lights have already been installed, just not active yet. Begs the question of whether this is really going to improve traffic on Summer Street. Traffic backs up onto the bridge at the PM rush hour and now you are putting a 2nd light in. Should be interesting.

It's not likely to be red very often/at all at PM rush, the only reason it would be turning red at that hour is a Fedex truck or two coming up from South Boston back into their facility.

There's no trucks arriving then (and that would only turn the NB side of Summer St red).

Re: battery powered trucks

To repeat a quote from the first post in this thread (on the previous page):

The news that the project could begin as soon as next spring was a welcome update to residents who have long endured the noise, pollution, and safety concerns associated with the trucks that run through the dense neighborhood.

If we're concerned about pollution, maybe Conley Terminal should buy a few of the electric trucks being used in California and get some experience to determine whether batteries are as good as diesel?

Those trucks in the link are yard tugs, which are not street legal and have very different power requirements because max speed is ~<10mph

Re: battery powered trucks

Yes, I didn't read that article carefully enough; BYD trucks include both a terminal tractor with 209 kWh battery and 33 MPH top speed and the T9 with 188 kWh battery, 56 MPH top speed, and 92 mile range, and it's not clear whether anyone in the US has ordered a T9 yet. (And it seems surprising that the longer range, faster truck has a battery storing less energy.)

It also looks likely that Tesla will come out with some reasonable long range truck somewhere in the 2018-2020 timeframe; that's the next project for Tesla after they get Model 3 production ramped up (and release candidate Model 3 vehicles have been produced).

Flashing yellow arrows require left turn lanes. Does this provide a left turn lane on Summer Street?

BeeLine, you beat me to it, but you buried the lede: the sidewalk is open again!
