Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

"... will produce unquestionable impacts"

Just to be clear, we're talking about the construction of a tall building in a neighborhood of tall buildings, right? There isn't some genocide or planned apocalypse that I might be missing?

It's as if the person who wrote that thinks that s/he is more educated and has some deep inside 'neighborhood' knowledge that the BRA and city don't have. And if this person is so worthy, why couldn't s/he sign his/her own name? NeimanMarcusWatch, we're looking in your corner buddy.

Pathetic.

type -- These kind of people know that they are more educated, more urbane and more erudite than you or I can possibly imagine being -- it all brings to mind a fabulous political cartoon of many a year ago that poked fun at the image of James Schlesinger -- a pipe smoking, nuancing multi-cabinet-secretary

The single panel of the cartoon had an unmistakably pipe smoking Schlesinger character leaning back in his chair with his feet on his desk and talking on the phone

"Yes, yes -- I agree Trash Burning power plants would be one possible solution -- But where would we get all the trash"

Meanwhile you can see his entire office filled with file cabinets with open drawers and files market with various study titles spilling out onto the desk, the floor and all around his chair

Yes -- these people know more than you do and they will never stop telling you that in a multitude of ways

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

Even though I don't live in Boston, I felt obligated to email them to tell them how moronic these people are. Wont change a thing, but at least I feel better.

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

Note that the email did not specifically clarify whether the impacts are negative or positive, just that they are unquestionable.

If you want to troll them (or educate them), you can demonstrate all the positive impacts that this project will have.

Oops. I did not demonstrate anything positive. Guess it was more of a reflex reaction since most, if not all, these meetings bitch and moan about how a large development negatively impacts their views.

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

This new tower will help defray some of the cost of supporting tent city residents. This is a section of the city where 44% of the people help pay to support the other 56%. Don't forget the tax revenue will also go towards the need for english as a second language which is just about at the 50% mark in the city's schools.

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

^ Important point that often gets overlooked during these debates. It's become a serious point of contention in Brooklyn, where people somehow expect hundreds of acres in new parks without adding a dime of tax revenue, and then flip a ship when the city proposes turning over a tiny scrap of could-be parkland to condos to help finance the maintenance of the new facilities...

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

There is a groundbreaking scheduled for December 21.

Huh? Wasn't this supposed to start in the spring?

If either this and/or the Filene's tower aren't out of the ground (or at least U/C somehow) by next May, I will feel betrayed and might change my mind about returning here after grad school.

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

Given all of the hoopla around 12/21, I'd rather see them do so on the 20th

Good point. The joke is "when Boston FINALLY gets a grand new tower, that's the cue that it's the end of the world".

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

why start a construction project at the beginning of winter?

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

I want to be optimistic, but this IS Boston after all, and this is tall. So it is really ever going to built?

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

Whoa. Be serious. This wasn't anything but pie in the sky until just a couple months ago. I'm surprised anyone's saying December 2012 - this hasn't even gone through all its approvals, as far as I know.

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

This project was proposed in 2006 and its supposedly not starting until December!

Only in Boston..

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

Yes, I'm sure Boston had everything to do with it and not the intervening and still ongoing global recession which stopped building projects worldwide.

I always wondered but I guess I thought that perhaps it was too sensitive a subject until now

Just how big and heavy is Lord Stanley's Cup? and does he wear it all the time or only during Hockey Night in Canada?

Lord -- most players that I'm aware of wear one during a hockey match -- has something to do with a fast moving puck and sensitive anatomy - so if Lord S's is that big -- WELL!
