Did Boston Miss out???

Agreed (with the exception of Arlington Heights). But any extension to Arlington would likely need to be underground, thereby rendering it a poor investment (given the ability for many residents of dense East Arlington to walk to Alewife, the presence of a high frequency bus connection to Porter/Harvard, and the fact that Arlington Center is not so dense).

Roslindale/W Rox could work, although you're still not gaining much (given the combined frequency of bus service to Forest Hills and the commuter rail). But my argument is mainly against extensions out to 128. Serving a primarily peak commuting market with rapid rail can certainly be done (see DC and SF) but it's extrememly expensive and as aquaman points out there are greater needs for intracity travel.

I've put together a urban ring that throws out the MBTA's technique of putting in T lines where there are rail lines (and therefore no density) and putting the line (and stops) where people are.

Don't know if this link will work:

It would be best if they built it with an express option like NYC's. That works well and makes the system much more efficient.
