Encore Boston Harbor Casino | 1 Broadway | Everett

No way this doesn't get finished and opened at least close to on schedule. Simply too much money on the line for too many parties.

That's what they thought about the Pink Flamingo Hotel and Casino that was built by Bugsy Siegel. We all know how that ended for the original investors.

How did it end up? I tried to look this up but could only find things from back in the 1940s. Is there another Flamingo?

It seems like the "signature Wynn design" here would complicate selling this project to another casino operator. It'd be like operating a Burger King out of a classic golden arches fast food building.

I still wouldn't eat whatever it is they try to pass off as food, but it's far past time they bring back this design.

Can we turn this thread into a discussion about fast food architecture?

Bugsy Seigel (The Dreamer & investor) ended up dead on the brink of bankruptcy--The project was over in the millions but in the end the Mob made their money back in time.

Bugsy (the Pioneer) -- sure was right about VEGAS in the end.

Yes, this project is entirely of a piece with Busy Seigel in the 1940s.

A slight tangent, but the Springfield mgm looks like it has a very good street presence (much more of a downtown location that Wynn) but the quality of materials do really well. Hopefully it helps downtown Springfield attract more housing and density for broad economic growth.

Looks like the "quality of materials" are all from the older buildings which they thankfully are keeping. Not bad, but it would have been better with a hotel tower that people could actually see is there.

I don't take MGM very seriously since they bait and switched to save money on the glass tower that was supposed to top this off. The tourist argument for this casino was its synergy with the tourist trap basketball hall of fame just around the corner. Without a shiny hotel tower out of state visitors will barely know there is a hotel attached to this Springfield gambling den.

I hate to agree with the naysayer(s), but the net economic effects of the MGM Springfield casino are likely to be negative in the next 15 or 20 years with primarily locals gambling away money to out of state investors. The only chance of this being a net benefit will be if Springfield uses the short term gains to really double down on its downtown and riverfront to attract and grow business that will actually bring in money instead of just steadily and predictably sucking it out.

Wynn (or a casino operator really interested in competing nationally and globally) is the only chance of a casino in Everett that could itself be a net benefit to the local and regional economy.

This is exactly what I was talking about.

"Any sale would need approval from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, and Everett would have to allow a transfer of its home-city agreement to a new owner"

WYNN is gone and if the politicans along with a Shark see an opportunity to take the casino they might do it. Unless the casino situation favors the Mayor of Everett I could see this casino hit troubling times between Everett and the Mass Gaming Commission.

Wynn Corp is already chatting about selling off the development or selling off the company. The leadership might not have the same vision as WYNN and might not live up to all what it has negotiated with the city of Everett.

Holy crap dude, you can see downtown, the Seaport, The Encore Everett, Assembly row Cambridge, The tips of the Zakim bridge, and even part of the Cambridge Skyline. All in one picture. Seeing the Seaport skyline behind the Bunker Hill monument isn't something you see everyday. Also take note at how much MT soars over the rest of downtown and 115 fed will be a smidge taller. So were gonna have twin Millennium peaks downtown. They offset at their corners too.

That was such a fail in springfield. They needed that new glass tower and got the rug pulled out. Its like Worcester and Springfield are trapped in purgatory forever.

The Springfield casino=(Biff's Casino) scene in Back to the Future II this is how this will play out for the surrounding areas in a decade when this casino comes into fruition.

Well hey at least Springfield is getting the biggest parking garage I've ever seen out of the deal. Just what they needed! :-D
