Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

Glad to see we're succeeding in making sure no corner of internet discussion is devoid of political grandstanding no matter how far removed from politics the topic is.

No, really guys, the other day I was thinking "Sure, I can't turn on the news without Trump, but is that really enough politicization? Maybe we can find a way to interject the culture war into my gardening forum?"

gardening is for snowflakes :)

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

The current scandal (which is political in nature) is completely intertwined with the project and could very well affect the possible completion of the project and will almost certainly affect the future use and prospects of the project. Almost impossible to separate the two.

Oh yeah, development has always been completely separate from politics.

Especially casino development.

Come the fuck on.

If you want to stay politics-free, go play Neopets.

never could have dreamed this would get jammed up.

we need the hotel space.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

My gut feeling is that there will be a change in management or possibly a sale but everything will continue as planned.

You never know though, these things can take weird turns.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

Do you think it might be possible to talk about the political implications without the terms "snowflake", "libtard", "social justice warrior", etc? Sure politics can be connected to anything, especially developments, but give me a break - this rhetoric isn't about politics, it's about culture war and it's about division. I know when I'm reading about politics, and I know when I'm reading people just trying to stir the shit.

It's just what some people do to try to silence people bringing up the allegations. It's basically a reactionary response, one that is essentially the same as shouting "blah blah blah blah I can't hear you" but replacing it with "libtards, sjw, and snowflake." These are the same people that cry about restriction of freedom of speech while attempting to silence another group and these are the same people throwing out ad hominem attacks.

No one here is trying to silence anyone about allegations or anything else. If supporting due process is considered reactionary then I am a proud reactionary.

I'm not talking about supporting due process. I'm talking about when forumers go straight for the "libtard, snowflakes, sjw, marxist" because that's the only thing they can reach for when the are offended by even the slightest thing. If you really support due process, then that's all you need to say.

Agreed wholeheartedly. Enough with the name calling, which I note comes from the usual suspects.

lol at people who insist there's such a thing as 'without politics'. Every act is a political act. Every project has political implications, the same way it has economic implications, the same way it has regulatory implications. One would do better to say, "I don't want to talk about THIS political issue" than to pretend that we don't spend a lot of time in here talking about politics. Affordable housing, parking, transit, and other such topics are fine but this is out of bounds? Interesting.

Not to mention we literally have a thread called 'what's happening with project x' at the top of this forum. Is this not a thing that's happening? Is this not the precise place to ask if it could have an impact on the project? For instance, does Wynn's board boot the man? If so, do they keep the company name? Or hideously tacky style? Is that architectural enough for you?

I don't see how the project continues as planned if Steve Wynn doesn't quickly survive this storm of allegations or somehow find a soft exit perhaps with his children taking over management and ownership stakes.

This has already taken a weird turn and the Massachusetts gambling law has some pretty puritanical requirements over "reputation" and "character" for the casino license so the commission could throw everything into doubt with a re-investigation of the "suitability" of Steve Wynn as an owner and as a manager.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

Hopefully not. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission putting the license in doubt for an extended re-investigation of the moral suitability of Wynn to be an owner/manager then it creates the potential for an open ended delay to the project unless it is resolved quickly.

If they force a sale and/or force new management then it is a question of whether the money spent completing the project will have an ROI or not or if they just want to sell the project unfinished and let the new owner pick it back up.

Architecture could play a small role in that decision making... as having it look like Wynn Vegas makes it harder to sell from a branding perspective. Might need a whole new facade.

And the lawsuits... lawyers are going to make a lot of money on this fiasco.

Maybe we should just pass a new tax on lawyers.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

I'm a little confused as to why anyone thinks the current allegations will at all affect the casino? The biggest thing I could see is a name change.

Don't forget that Wynn Resorts is a publicly traded corporation, with a full board. Yes, Wynn is the CEO, but if he has to step down or take a leave for whatever reason, someone else will step in. That is how these things literally always work.
