Encore Boston Harbor Casino | 1 Broadway | Everett

There is only one entrance to the Encore casino in and out from 99 for ground transit.

You would think their would be requirements for a 2.5 Billion dollar casino development to be required to build its own off ramp from the highway at least.

Exactly which highway are you referring to that the casino should build its own off ramp from? Where do you think it hypothetically should've gone? I'm morbidly interested to find out.

Where do you propose this off ramp be built? Whose land will be taken for it? And why do you want to encourage auto traffic instead of focusing on other means of transport to and from the casino?

If the state and the city are going to encourage these types of developments they need to invest in our infrastructure. Not only the offramp. How about the foot bridges, the MBTA?

The traffic is outrageous in this area to only create one entry point on a road that has been outdated since the 70's is truly incompetent.

Would it be feasible to create a second entrance to this from the Gateway Center area? (strip mall with Target, Costco, etc) I mean, the casino is literally RIGHT THERE. How hard would it be to bridge the railroad track and connect the Costco parking lot to the casino parking?

Interesting idea. Gateway is already kind of a cluster bang, though. Traffic can be backed up to 16 just getting into the parking lot.

Its funny how excited I am about this because I'll go twice and be completely over it

Wynn Resorts is investing tens of millions of dollars on subsidizing MBTA service and station improvements along the orange line at Wellington & Sullivan Square Stations. It is also running shuttle bus service to these stations 24 hours per day--stations that are also well-served by numerous bus routes.

Wynn Resorts has committed something to the order of $15M (IIRC) for the pedestrian bridge just discussed a few posts back.

Per the Expanded Gaming Act, Encore is required to pay 25% of gross gaming revenues to the Commonwealth. Of the revenue the Commonwealth collects, 15% is earmarked for transportation infrastructure improvements. So hypothetically, if Encore Boston Harbor earns $400 million in one year from gaming revenue, it will be required to pay $100 million to Massachusetts, $15 million of which the state would have to invest in transportation.

Here's a chart explaining the breakdown of where Massachusetts Gaming Revenue Funds go.

I'll go once (probably in about a year or so) out of morbid curiosity and never go back.

You get a shiny new tower + taxes. That's exciting, and even moreso if you plan on holding onto your wallet!

The special highway off ramp is his version of another guy's "hard rail on a grid," so don't expect much in the way of a meaningful answer.

I will be there when the pedestrian bridge opens. Pedestrians get decent infrastructure in the Boston area once every few decades so gotta appreciate it when it happens.

A couple of problems with this:

1. To get to the parking you'd need to tunnel under the tracks, as the parking is in the basement and there is definately no room on the casino side for a bridge over the tracks+ramp into the basement.

2. The owners of Gateway Center were probably approached about this but I can't imagine them wanting the extra traffic that would discourage people from going to the tenants there. The ven diagram of people going to a casino and people making a Costco run is two circles. The area around that Costco is already a zoo on the weekends.

2a. They probably aren't thrilled with the idea of people parking in Gateway and walking to the casino for the same reason stated above, which is why I would think that they aren't going to be thrilled about implementing the harborwalk connector under the rail bridge (that connects their parking lot and the casino harborwalk).

I think it would make a lot of sense to get traffic off of Rt 16 and onto a rd that could back up for hundreds of feet before even impacting the Costco parking lot traffic. Probably could put a ramp over the tracks right into the top floor of the casino parking garage or under the train bridge where there is enough height under the bridge. Would take some stress off of Rt 16 and Rt99 traffic.

Edit: Is the parking really all underground? Or are their upper levels above ground?

Is it really all in the basement? And I see about three car/truck widths of space between the casino and the rail corridor. I think you could get one lane of entrance out of that or maybe a two way ramp over the tracks. And if there really isn't any parking above ground then you could wrap the ramp around the back of the building and retain the full service area back there under the ramp.

Or under the train bridge. Looks like there might be enough space there to get at least cars under without much height problem. Just extend Mystic View Rd straight across the little inlet there and under the bridge.

Mystic View Rd appears to be a public rd. I think you could work around the Gateway Center property.

All the more reason to put a ramp over the tracks to the casino or under the train bridge to divert people that otherwise might think they should just park at the Gateway Center and walk over.

Also, do we know if the harbor/river walk connector is going to be ready opening day or not? Would be an easy win to make a walk over from Wellington much more feasible.

I haven't been down there for a while, but it doesn't seem like it would be much of a stretch to just put in a side walk under the train bridge. And I believe that is all DCR land adjacent to the Gateway Center that we are talking about for the walkway over to the casino.

Parking is all underground. The whole resort site was raised above a below-grade and at-grade garage to proactively address climate resiliency concerns.

heres a picture that i previously posted of the underground portion

I just read on curbed boston that the ferry from Boston will be $7 each way? I thought this was going to be free!
