General Worcester Discussion

If one were new to the Worcester area and surrounding vicinity and working in Marlborough, where would those with knowledge of the area consider suggesting for rental properties?

whats your price point and what is important to you?

$2500-2700 price point, dog park friendly area, walkability
I would consider Alta on the row, walkable to both shrewsbury st restraurants and entertainment, East park, has its own mini dog park and right next to I-290 East

The Revinton has a dog park across the st and is pet friendly and near kelley square and has a garage like alta, also easy to I-290

Finally the Cove, no dog park, but the most walkable area

Worcester considers eliminating parking minimums to make way for more housing

In an effort to add more housing, Worcester is considering ending a mandate that requires a certain number of parking spaces be built with new developments.
The Standing Committee on Economic Development will meet at 5 p.m. on Thursday to review the planning board’s recommendation to eliminate or “aggressively reduce” the required number of parking spaces, also known as parking minimums.
The city’s housing production plan, which aims to build more than 12,000 units by 2033, reads that parking minimums are a barrier toward the construction of new houses.
Parking minimums were implemented in cities beginning in the 1950s. Their purpose was to reduce demand for street parking and avoid overcrowding. Several studies, however, have found that having a required number of parking spaces for new developments increases construction costs and limits the number of new housing units that can be built.
One of the housing production plan’s goals is to eliminate or significantly reduce parking minimums, allowing for more housing to be built. In his 2026 state of the city address, City Manager Eric D. Batista spoke in favor of eliminating or heavily reducing parking minimums in Worcester, calling the requirements a “roadblock.”
The planning board also recommends that the city council adopt an ordinance simplifying parking requirements to make them easy to navigate and expand parking maximums, a limit on the number of parking spaces built on new developments.
