While the plans for the interior of the Hastings wing are uncertain, Northeastern should immediately clean and restore the facade. It looks rather shabby.

^^ That looks like the new gym/pool (?) space for the YMCA... as far as I know that's separate from the dorm tower itself.

Yep. That's the new YMCA gym building. The highest section there is the stairwell access to the roof, so it looks like it's topped off.

The giant hole in the foreground is the Grandmarc. They have been pouring concrete like mad this past week and were even working on Saturday.

I knew the original GrandMarc at 30, 40 whatever stories was too ambitious, but this is incredibly ho-hum and stubby. I bet they think they are being cute with the offset windows. You will be able to see this building all the way from Copley and all the way down Huntington. What a beacon for NU. Ugh.

This is why I never assume that a building will look bad simply because of what it is made of every material comes in different levels of quality although some things are harder to make look good or almost always look cheap.

Tall in slender is so much less obtrusive at street level than fat and squat. I wish Boston knew this.

They were working really late last night on the YMCA building, until 10 PM at least. They had two cranes going lifting steel over both the YMCA and Jordan Hall into the Y site. Big floodlights were illuminating the whole Y structure. I took some pics but they didn't come out well enough to post.

Meanwhile, the Grandmarc is a continuous concrete pour as they fill up all the forms for the interior of the basement.
