Harvard - Allston Campus

The New Balance rink is likely for the Bruins. The Bruins apparently very much want out of Wilmington. If they don't go to New Balance, they will go to the new Skating Club building.

It looks very similar to West Village F at Northeastern. Nice building.

I thought this was made public months ago, but perhaps not. I attended a meeting several months ago with the developer behind the New Balance project and based on his presentation the New Balance hockey rink is being designed EXACTLY to the same specifications as the rink at the TD Garden, including sponsorship placements along the interior rink walls and even similar seating surrounding the rink itself. I'm pretty sure the Bruins have been planning to move to New Balance for training for a while now.

Dear Lord, where are the cows and the hay bales?

This design is 10 years old and was a study for a generic suburban site. This is not their current plans for the Lincoln Street site.

dshoost, another clue is the amount of square footage being devoted to sports medicine.

Meh, seeing as I'm not at the company I was when we went after this (and didn't get it anyways). Yeah, been planned for the Bruins for at least a couple years now I would say.

I always want to ask that building in the background "who exactly are you talking to?" It's so visually arresting yet completely out of context with its surroundings, both aesthetically and from a size and usage perspective. Makes me wonder how it ever got past the NIMBYs.

kz, the building in the background is now owned by HBS, but I don't believe Harvard built it.

And thanks again to you and Beeline for your pictorial updates.

The Ceramics building is quite a transformation of the telephone company garage. Travis St. involves renovation of buildings previously used by Comcast, and will house administrative and logistics operations Harvard currently houses on the NW corner of Barry's Corner. Those operations have to move because that property is the site of the Samuel's mixed use development. The Ceramics studio also had to move from the Samuel's site.

Formally renamed Teele Hall in 2000 in honor of Dean Stanley F. Teele (1906–1967), the modern brick, concrete, and glass structure was designed by Goody & Clancy and constructed in 1985.

I ran a quick deed search, nothing on file before '87. The Heritage Harvard Trust and Bank of New England were the primary grantors. So Harvard was involved in some way from the beginning, but I don't know if they were the sole occupant before 2000.

In addition, Patrick will also announce that the Allston section of the Pike will undergo an overhaul that will straighten the roadway to allow commuters to more easily pass through the area.

“We expect that we will be able to significantly improve traffic in the neighborhood,” Davey said.

That construction project will open up 60 acres of new development in the Beacon Park Rail Yard area.

Seeing Beeline's photo update of Tata Hall, the BRA has approved the Chao Center at HBS.

Construction scheduled to start in March.

With regard to the old Charlesview, Harvard says,
Charlesview sitework will include demolition of the existing housing complex and the vacant New England Depository building; abatement of regulated materials; capping of existing utilities; and other required sitework.

Given that the engineer is Parsons Brinckerhoff Americas, and the general contractor is Turner Construction, both of whom seem to be overqualified for the statement of work, --unless there is a connection to the re-start of the Science Complex across the street, or preserving a right-of-way for the Urban Ring. I believe Turner remains as the general contractor for the Science Complex.
