Hood Business Park | 480-570 Rutherford Avenue | Charlestown

Kudos to Hood for diversifying--not only in expected areas like Planet Oat, but also with their real estate development portfolio. I'd be so excited if any of the lab space they're constructing/proposing on site is dedicated to agricultural innovation/production. Between Hood and Indigo Ag, Inc., Charlestown could emerge out of left field as a regional hub for food innovation (if it hasn't already).

I believe Hood long ago moved out of the park. Their headquarters is now in Lynnfield.

Lab addition above garage parcel apparently approved and moving forward...

Looks like a brutalist revival is afoot:

They got a deal on the trimmings from another project’s Alucobond.

A little dollop of brutalism on an entryway or accent feature is totally fine. It's like garnishing a cocktail with a lego brick. That... sounded better in my head.

^I am a little obsessed with the black and white building. Hello Hood Park, I see you.

Rutherford Ave has to be one of, if not the most egregiously over engineered/built urban arteries in the country. Was there anytime, perhaps pre CA/T completion, that it actually carried the amount of vehicles it can accommodate? Every time I drive on it it seems like I am practically the only one using it

Thank goodness the Commonwelath has earmarked funds from the Infra bill to reconfigure it, but it is so big that I struggle to imagine how to correct it.

It might be my least favorite road in Boston, and that's saying A LOT, because Boston is absolutely riddled with terrible roads, to say nothing of the urban highways.

Unfortunately, MassDOT's plan is to keep the underpass (shown in the above photo). The excuse by MassDOT is that the Casino traffic justifies having it. Removing the underpass would make more space available for a greenway, path and bike trail along the corridor, while sill having 2 lanes in each direction for traffic, The present plan still has 4 traffic lanes southbound. This highway needs to be reduced in size, and I don't see much of a commitment for that from MassDOT or the City of Boston.

I think so? I've always heard it matching the American standard pronunciation (ruh·thr·frd) rather than the british (ruh·thuh·fuhd). Google seems to think NJ also uses American standard pronunciation?
