Ink Block (Boston Herald) | 300 Harrison Avenue | South End

Re: Ink Block | Boston Herald Property Redevelopment

Does this site abut the albany st. tower?

Re: Ink Block | Boston Herald Property Redevelopment

Backhoes?

I think excavators/power shovels is a better, more generic, term. If they're really big, they might be draglines. But those are usually not used in cities, for obvious reasons.

Re: Ink Block | Boston Herald Property Redevelopment

Excavator is the general term. Trackhoes are the large ones. Backhoes are the dual purpose bulldozer/excavator apparatus with the double sided cabs.

Re: Ink Block | Boston Herald Property Redevelopment

Did anyone see the article in the Metro for this project today? A massive fucking parking lot in the middle of the project? SINCE WHEN? Project render shows this off as a real piece of shit now. Was looking so promising, too.

Re: Ink Block | Boston Herald Property Redevelopment

I saw that and at first was dismayed. But I don't know exactly where it is in relation to the street. It's a supermarket, people will drive to it. hopefully it is not a giant setback from the street activity and more internalized.

Does "official groundbreaking" = "construction commences"?

Re: Ink Block | Boston Herald Property Redevelopment

I am a tad biased, but you need to take a look around Station Landing in Medford. National Development came in and took a mostly failed office project which only got one building off the ground and turned it into a mixed transit and auto oriented development. The 1980's office development pattern intended for the site was going to look like the North Quincy office cluster. Now there is yes, drive up parking but also very walkable sidewalks, a good tenant mix, and lots of people interacting at the site. Expect the same at the Herald.

Over time, as development grows in the neighborhood, this site will evolve. The placement of massing along Harrison Avenue is great. Albany Street has been since about 1840 been an industrial street or a highway on ramp. I have been going into this area of the city since the mid-1970's. This project is going to be a catalyst for growth and change.

Re: Ink Block | Boston Herald Property Redevelopment

So where exactly did the Herald move to if they have left this facility?

Re: Ink Block | Boston Herald Property Redevelopment

today the views wont be bad if they look beyond the Mass Pike

Re: Ink Block | Boston Herald Property Redevelopment

Jeez, they made short work of that demo work. Just under 3 months.
