My gif comment should not be interpreted as distaste for the CITGO sign. It has its charms. If someone wants to pay thousands of bucks a month to live with that glow in their penthouse that's their goddamned right as an American!

For many of us who grew up in Boston, the CITGO sign is a fun, if quirky, landmark. Details like this happily define Boston. What's going on next door - the destruction, the replacement - is a diminishment. I prefer quirky to mediocre.

Ugh. What a full on Las Vegas Strip chintz of a monstrosity the Hotel Commonwealth is. At least when you're walking in front of it on that side of the square you get the benefit of not seeing it in its entirety.

At least the hotel commonwealth isn't as bad as it originally was, I guess. I just wish this had its demo delayed post-covid start, maybe it could have saved the old buildings.
