   Massport’s Terminal B to C Roadways project will revamp the terminal area roadways to eliminate backups and get passengers to and from the terminals faster. New construction will replace aging roadway infrastructure along both levels between the terminals. It will create more curb space at Terminal C — and reduce congestion on Boston Logan’s roadways — by improving traffic flow and increasing traffic safety.

3. Terminal C Optimization and B to C Connector
   Enabling better travel and seamless flight connections.
   Massport is investing to renovate and enhance Terminal C. This project will provide new and renovated facilities in Terminal C, a new post-security connection to Terminal B, and a smoother, more enjoyable travel experience through Logan Airport.

4. Terminal C Canopy and Upper Deck
   Providing more weather protection and light.
   The new, larger canopy will feature rooftop solar panels that will generate enough power to exceed the lighting needs for the curb areas on both levels and uses strong, corrosion resistant plastic called ETFE that allows natural light to pass through while still protecting passengers from the weather. It will give the entrance to Terminal C a modern aesthetic and, more importantly, provide sustainability benefits.

5. Terminal E Modernization
   Upgrading and expanding.
   1. Improvements:
      We are modernizing the facilities at Boston Logan's international Terminal E to ensure the Massachusetts economy continues to be connected to the world. Seven new gates will be added, including 3 gates originally approved in 1995 but never constructed.
      
   2. Sustainability:
      Our mission is to create a sustainable, high-performance, resilient, and resource efficient building that is a comfortable and healthy environment for passengers and workers alike. Terminal E sustainability improvements will be designed to serve as a noise barrier to the nearby East Boston neighborhoods and will achieve energy efficiencies at a minimum 20% better than the MA Energy Code.

6. Parking Program
   Increasing parking spaces. Reducing emissions.
   In Phase 1 of the Logan Parking Program, we will be adding 2,000 new spaces at Terminal E. In Phase 2, we will add an additional 3,000 spaces at the Economy Garage. Through the creation of up to 5,000 new parking spaces, the Logan Airport Parking Program hopes to reduce the number of passengers opting for personal dropoffs and pickups because they fear they will not get a parking spot. The increase in available parking spaces is not only good service for our customers, it’s good for the environment.

7. Community
   Honoring our commitment to our neighbors.
   1. Piers Park II
      Massport is actively engaged with the East Boston community to create more vibrant, public spaces. We are collaborating with the East Boston Pier Project Advisory Committee on a final design for a 4.5-acre Piers Park II, which will be adjacent to the award-winning Piers Park.
      
   2. Piers Park III
      After responding to Massport's RFP for a potential Piers Park III, the Trustees of Reservations has been working on a preliminary design to transform an aging East Boston waterfront pier into a 3.6-acre park.

8. Environmental Stewardship
   Being mindful of the environment.
   We are working with airlines and ground handling companies as they move to electrify their ground service equipment fleets. Over 1,000 pieces of equipment will be replaced with electrified alternatives and 50 electric vehicle-charging stations will be installed for the airlines at each terminal. Conversion to electric equipment will reduce emissions by nearly 178,000 tons of CO2 over the lifetime of the equipment.
   
   Massport's Logan Forward projects incorporate more than $100 million in sustainability and resiliency features.

9. Responsible Stewards
   Massport has the financial and operating independence to enhance the experience of customers using its facilities, be a responsible steward of the assets under its control, and make long-term strategic investments for use by future generations.
   
   Massport will rely on long-term revenue bonds to pay for much of the Logan Forward capital investments. These bonds will be repaid over time from the revenues we collect each year. Massport enjoys one of the highest bond ratings of any U.S. airport, which helps to lower borrowing costs. In June 2019, the three major rating agencies (Moody’s Investor Service, Standard & Poor’s Global Ratings and Fitch Ratings) re-affirmed Massport’s AA credit rating.

10. Regional Alternatives
    1. Worcester Regional Airport
       Massport has invested over $100 million in Worcester Regional Airport including modernizing the fire safety and emergency services, constructing a new taxiway and installing a $30 million Category (CAT) III Instrument Landing System to improve the airport’s all-weather reliability.
       
       Massport’s investments have spurred additional airline services at Worcester Regional Airport. In addition to servicing Orlando and Fort Lauderdale, JetBlue added nonstop service to its New York-JFK focus city (May 2018), American Airlines introduced nonstop service to its Philadelphia hub (October 2018), and Delta Airlines entered the Worcester market in August 2019 with new nonstop service to Detroit.
       
    2. Hanscom Field
       Located in Bedford, MA, Hanscom Field is a full-service general aviation airport that accommodates a range of aviation activities including corporate aviation, private flying, on-demand air taxi, and private charter flights. Hanscom Field serves as a critical general aviation reliever to Logan Airport by annually handling over 100,000 general aviation flights.
       
    3. Other Travel Options
       T.F. Green/Providence Airport and Manchester Boston Regional Airport serve portions of the Greater Boston metropolitan area, which extends into New Hampshire and Rhode Island. Over the long-term, as air travel demand grows, regional airports can provide relief to Logan Airport by accommodating a greater share of air passengers that originate from the outlying regions of the Greater Boston metropolitan area.
       
       Amtrak also plays a critical role in the regional transportation system. Since the high-speed Acela service on the Northeast Corridor was first introduced in 2000, Amtrak’s share of the Boston-New York market has grown to 54% while the airlines capture 46%.

11. Looking Ahead
    Logan Forward's broader vision.
    1. Intermodal Transportation Center (ITC)
       A potential Intermodal Transportation Center (ITC) may provide a dedicated location for pickups and dropoffs for App Ride, taxi and limo users, and, possibly, water ferry users. The system would promote HOV use by promising HOV modes priority access to terminal curbs. Passengers arriving via other commercial modes would be transported from the ITC to the terminals with buses, an automated people mover, or other technology along a dedicated route. The reduction in vehicle miles traveled on airport roadways would be the equivalent of half a million gallons of gas per year.
       
    2. An Airport of the Future
       Beyond an ITC, Massport is looking to the airport of the future. At Logan Airport, we will soon introduce bag check at the new App Ride dropoff areas in the Central Garage, thus allowing passengers to begin their journey baggage free. Airlines are also exploring technologies that would enable baggage to have its own permanent ID. Passengers could check their bags remotely at their hotels, transit centers, or other off-airport locations while taking advantage of real-time baggage tracking.
       
       At Logan Airport, JetBlue is already testing facial recognition equipment as a way to speed the aircraft boarding process. New technologies could one day scan people and their belongings as they walk through the terminal thereby eliminating the need to line up for security screening. Better use of SMART technologies can enable gate delivery services, so passengers can order food — or an item they forgot to pack — and have it delivered directly to them before boarding.
       
       All of these technologies aim to create an efficient and stress-free experience for passengers traveling through the airport, while ensuring safety.

Jass -- No its called accommodating the demand for access to a growing an airport in a tightly constrained footprint

Build it on the plains in front the front range of the Rockies [DEN] or in the midst of a Texas Prairie [DFW] and it would certainly look and function differently

It also might function differently if the various alphabet soup agencies had some master coordination back a few decades ago when the Big Dig was in the planning phases -- and someone was prescient enough back when Richard Nixon was President and Frank Sargent was governor to anticipate 45 million customers would pass through Logan 50 years later

You realize that there's no new pavement or cars there, right? That the point of that project is to make things safer for everyone?

Also that Logan has one of the highest rates of transit use among major US airports? That Massport has built something like the 5th largest transit system in Massachusetts to serve just part of the non-SOV market with Logan Express? That Massport makes the Silver Line free and actively cheats the system to give transit users a line jump golden ticket at security?

I mean an international airport also serves the entire region not only the city. In the Marines people I knew from Maine flew out of Logan. Some cities/towns do have logan express, but for the millions of people in the suburbs with horrendous transit options unfortunately the reality is they have to drive. I mean yea you can drive to a CR station, lug your crap onto the train whenever it shows up, ride that for an hour, get off at back bay, take all your crap onto the orange line, get off that and transfer with all your luggage to blue now, get off blue at airport and ride a bus up to your gate...

The airport is definitely convenient for downtown and if you live in the city you shouldnt drive there, but the reality is millions of people in new england also use logan. NSRL with a CR transfer to blue absolutely would make more ppl take the commuter rail from far flung suburbs, thats why its soo dumb when the politicians describe it as just a way to get from south station to north station, its way more than that. But as things are now driving is an unfortunate part of the reality of this airport and the region.

If you walk along the edge of the Parking garage from where the Passenger Bridge to Term A enters the Garage [Lower Center in the photo] in a direction toward the left bottom you will come to the Corner of the Central Garage where the Two Pedestrian Bridges in the Render meet in a 90 degree V intersection

I have to jump in here and compliment MassPort on it's landscaping. They do a wonderful job, having planted a great variety of evergreens and deciduous trees, annuals, and, surprisingly, for a government agency, they actually maintain the landscaping beautifully! Granted, the illustration that Jass posted is awful as far as landscaping, but, as far as the whole airport landside, kudos to MassPort.
