Logan Airport Capital Projects

Close the airport, and you can have it in 6 months.
I wasn't asking for it in 6 months or to close the airport for any construction. But 4 years seems a little long to me for an above ground parking garage even in the middle of an operating airport.

I think they are just being realistic. Most on-airport construction projects end up severely behind schedule due to overly optimistic expectation that it is just like other commercial construction (it just is not -- every step is much slower).

One interesting tidbit to the parking versus hotel discussion is who parks their car at the airport when travelling internationally? I understand there is alot of money amongst the 44 to 54 million passengers, but paying to park while travelling internationally seems like quite the extravagant expense.

It might be an extravagance for someone really traveling on the cheap or staying with friends/family but in the context of a mid-range weeklong vacation for a couple or a family it’s equivalent to at most 3-5% of the total tab. It’s also not as if any transportation option is completely free or without potential disadvantages.

I will point out that there is some substantial inconsistency in the numbers and dates being reported in the docs. The briefing slides and some Massport docs say $800M, 900k sq, complete in 2030 while the RFQ docs from the same procurement and announced CM contract say its $450M, 725k sqft and has a 2028 completion date. Nothing I've seen so far accounted for that delta, but I chose to report the higher numbers pending the release of more detail.

Imagine arriving on a domestic Delta flight to gate A22 and then needing to transfer to an international Delta flight at Gate E16. Even if/when they do link Terminals A to B post-security, I cannot imagine a Logan Airport that discontinues shuttle bus service between their domestic and international gates. Not without some sort of post-security skytrain/underground link. Even so, it'll certainly be nice to have the post-security link in place.
