I'm still pissed we lost the 1905 facade too. Millenium absolutely could have built this tower with that part of the old facade preserved but they got lazy and cheap.

kinda surprised how quickly it's become a "bash-MT fest" over here. this thing is a net gain for the city and for DTX specifically -- and that's already more than evident with the place not even being done/open yet. for the elements that aren't finished yet (T entrance, etc) maybe hold off until it's complete to judge? as for the other building/facade lost -- yeah, that's absolutely a bummer, but (again) to condemn the whole project b/c of that? many of you are way more knowledgeable on the ins and outs of design and implementation, but unless you actually worked on this particular project, do you really know the reasoning -- the full reasoning -- behind the decisions that were made? i get that there are grasping, ruthless, heartless types out there, but why are folks embracing an attitude of certainty that the millennium team looked at that building and said, "yeah, that's a pretty nice structure -- let's kill it!" maybe they had reasons. reasons aside from just being lazy or stupid or assholes.

+3

All for injection of funding to improve our city: no mutual benefit for developer = no funding. Projects need to strike happy medium, which this does. They did a kickass job on the Burnham - let's not forget that.

I honestly don't think the pickup/dropoff area for Millennium will really be that busy. It's basically going to feel like a big sidewalk with the occasional black car moving slowly through. Let's come back to this page in two years.

It's not an either/or thing folks.

I really like the new tower. I really, really hate that they razed the 1905 facade. I looove the work they did on the Burnham building.

These are not mutually exclusive thoughts.

my post wasn't so much directed at YOU, but at folks who commented in iight of your post. if you review those, many of them seem more than a little over-the-top negative to me.

and, again, i also wish the 1905 structure (or parts of it -- i certainly miss the clock) had been preserved.

The clock may make a comeback http://atlanticassociatesre.com/downtown-crossing-demo-to-begin/

This was their reasoning: http://www.skyscraperlife.com/skysc...76610-millennium-tower-approved-boston-l-184m

Ill have to dig through the internet more to see if they really do have plans to incorporate elements into the "shoppers park"

Second edit: finally! On Twitter of all places I found a render of shoppers park/ the New head house to show how it will be incorporated.

Nice detective work! Thank you!

:D glad I could offer you solace here! Also while I was digging I saw that the old headhouse, as an art installation was fully intended to be sat on while watching street performances. This new bleachers/stairs one is actually paying its respects to the previous one's original function, sans colorful glass. I guess the bright colors don't fit the high class character they are shooting for. Therefore, rich people must hate colors ;)

great find!

I'd expect delivery trucks to take out that clock in no time.

In the render that is on a plaza surrounded by trees and very faintly outlined bollards I don't think any trucks will be coming anywhere near that.

???
It's right in the middle of Washington St

i'm mystified as to what possible relationship the raised stairs have to the train station entrance or from whence the feet stepping down those raised stairs will come.... Oh, i've entertained a couple of possibilities but i'll attempt to spare myself further embarrassment.

I'm not sure if you are joking but they are not 'stairs' per se. They are more akin to stadium seating.

It is a lounging/hang out area is all.
