I just got home from watching "Bridesmaids". It was very funny & really raunchy. Yes, it was a "Hangover" but with women.

It takes place in Milwaukee.

I see that Milwaukee and Boston have almost equal populations; Milwaukee, 594,000 and Boston, 617,000. City area is approximately the same size, too.

The shots of the city in the movie didn't show anything special about the city. I did notice that there seemed to be a bunch of mid-rise to short high-rises. Turns out, there's only about half as many "tall" buildings in Milwaukee as in Boston, according to Emporis. I think the difference is that it looks as though a lot of the tall buildings are in a row versus a cluster, like in Boston.

Has anyone been there? Is it any interesting, for architecture / vacation?

I have never been but it looks nice

Riverwalks like this and Providence and San Antonio and Chicago and elsewhere are great looking.

No people in that photo, though. Was it taken on a Sunday morning? Does Milwaukee have any event like Providence's Waterfire that will populate those walks?

I go all the time for work. Great bones, no people. Really some very nice turn of the century buildings, and the German influence is prominent. They've done a nice job with the riverwalk, and with the lake front, which includes that calatrava building. There's just no one on the street though - parking garages and gerbil tubes are the name of the game. I went on a couple of walks at lunch time and at 5pm, and the only people visible are smokers and joggers. Really a shame because there are some beautiful buildings....

These are quick iphone pictures but hopefully they give a taste...

to illustrate further: this is what the back of the classical building in photo 2 looks like - double gerbil tubes connecting to the building next door and the parking garage across the street

Any idea why they built a gerbil tube to cross what looks like a lightly-traveled side street? It's not exactly Huntington Ave.

Weather, convenience, mixture of both probably.

Heck, turn to the left a bit and see that they built one above a pedestrian plaza/walkway!

some nice old buildings, luv their city hall its very impressive! A city I'd like to see, thanks for posting!

I saw the title of this thread and immediately thought of Bridesmaids, which I saw last night and enjoyed. I have never been to Milwaukee either (or anywhere in the Midwest), but it seems like a nice town from what I've seen. Seems like a little-Chicago.

My guess would be the harsh Midwestern winters.

Yup. Sometime I'll post pics of the skywalks in Minneapolis. You can traverse the entire city (almost) without going outdoors.

Sure, those make sense in Minneapolis, but that's many miles north of Milwaukee.
