How much call is there for large ships to dock in the upper harbor?
From what I understand, a not so insignificant amount. The primary argument now is that not having access to the upper harbor limits the offshore wind potential. With the current bridge, the width is a very real restrictive element. With the proposed new bridge, I'm not sure exactly what the issue would be beyond offshore wind vessels. There are small and medium sized cargo ships that do come and go from the harbor. I'm sure it would be great if they had access to some of the facilities north of the bridge. But I'm not sure if the proposed bridge height would limit them or if access to the upper harbor would have much of an impact on demand for cargo traffic.How much call is there for large ships to dock in the upper harbor?
I don't think it's in the realm of "plans." I think it's more about trying to open up potential.They have the pier built out and in use for Vineyard Wind. I wasn’t aware of plans for other buildouts north of Route 6 and south of I-195.
